POSITION SUMMARY
The Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for breaking down and handling sheet metal parts and components in the Fabrication Shop. The Sheet Metal Fabricator uses different tools to cut, file and smooth parts and components. The Sheet Metal Fabricator reports to the Fabrication Lead.

JOB FUNCTIONS
Include the following, but other duties may be assigned.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.
  • Use hand and power tools/equipment, including but not limited to palm sanders, grinders and other basic tools. Perform operations such as, but not limited to, cutting, sanding, prepping of raw materials
  • Grind and deburr surfaces in accordance with drawing specifications.
  • Operate equipment such as but not limited to breakdown tables and deburr-grinding machines.
  • Must be interested in and willing to be trained as backup to the laser operator.
  • Responsible for ensuring products he or she built, meet or exceed all workmanship standards and quality standards either detailed or implied.
  • Ensures all activities in his or her area comply with company and ISO policies and procedures.
  • Repairs and maintains sheet metal products.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with sheet metal or in a manufacturing environment, this includes shipbuilding.
  • Working knowledge of machine and tooling processes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Proven ability to use general measuring devices such as tape measures, scales, angle finders, and metal thickness gauges.
VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Trade school training or certification highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience with tools such as grinders and scalers.
  • Able to operate a forklift truck and overhead crane.
REPORTING TO THIS POSITION
  • No direct reports.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands, fingers, handle, or grasp; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Vision abilities required. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to thirty pounds without assistance and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds or ask for assistance with lifting.

Work conditions may include elevated noise levels, exceeding the normal dBA, requiring hearing protection and extreme temperatures, both high and low. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock. The employee may be required to wear eye protection, hearing protection, or a respirator depending upon the nature of the work performed.

Normal working schedule is Monday through Thursday, 4:00pm to 2:30am, with some overtime and weekends required at times.
