***Seeking candidates that can work as needed. Part-time hours (must be flexible to work days or nights and some weekends).*****

Answer Help Line

  • Answer phone within 3 rings and complete telephone assessments on all abuse calls.
  • Determine eligibility; consult with supervisor when necessary.
  • Complete telephone log entry while on the phone with caller.
  • Educate callers regarding domestic violence.
  • Provide information and referrals for callers in the Safeplace catchment area.
  • Provide referrals for callers outside of Safeplace catchment area.
  • Provide information and referrals for non-abuse calls.

Monitor Residential Occupancy

  • Admit and discharge clients.
  • Check new intakes for completion within 48 hours of client’s entry.
  • Provide orientation to facility including fire escape routes and room assignments immediately following completion of entry paperwork.
  • Check Good Housekeeping daily for anticipated admissions or discharges.
  • Review completed telephone assessments since your last shift.
  • Conduct head count for residents’ physical presence in the facility at 7:00 p.m. and 10 p.m., nightly, when working 4-12 shift.
  • Create chore chart for overall house by 10:00 p.m. nightly when working 4-12 shift.
  • Monitor compliance with living agreement.
  • Check bed chart for available space.
  • Assign client room changes for best usage of space as new clients are admitted.
  • Check client authorization forms before calling a resident to the telephone.

Admit Clients to and Discharge from Program

  • Complete admission paperwork in its entirety within 36 hours. If resident is not capable of finishing all paperwork, complete required fields before orientation.
  • Log and secure client medication in locked filing cabinet at the time of admission.
  • Review information in Resident’s Folder with new admissions prior to issuing folder to them for their personal use.
  • Assign resident to bedroom and issue key for that room immediately following admission.
  • Provide orientation to facility to include fire escape routes and room assignment upon completion of admission paperwork.
  • When resident exits, ensure discharge paperwork is completed and signed.

Orientation to kitchen, laundry, and bedroom

  • Physically show adult location of the storage that houses the brooms, mops and mop bucket within 36 hours of adult entry into the facility.
  • Provide education on where cleaning supplies are kept.
  • Provide education on what products can be used to mop floor; clean counter and stove tops.
  • Communicate with resident the location of the emergency responsibility chart and the overall household responsibility chart and how to determine residents’ responsibilities within 36 hours of entry into the facility.
  • Meet with new residents within 24 hours of entry to complete room inventory list.
  • Monday through Friday during scheduled shift meet with residents preparing to exit to complete room inventory list and check room for cleanliness and linens, blankets, etc. are on bed.

Ensure Security and Safety

  • At the beginning of your shift, check Good Housekeeping for status of any current security alerts.
  • Observe monitors and open doors electronically upon approved request.
  • Manually open and/or close entry and exit gates if there is a malfunction.
  • Complete nightly security walk of facility ensuring residents are in their rooms and designated areas of the facility are locked by 10:00 p.m.
  • Conduct and document fire and severe weather drills as required on the monthly scheduled sheet.
  • Contact and request additional patrol from police when necessary.

Documentation

  • Complete admission paperwork in its entirety within 36 hours. If resident is a not capable, complete required fields.
  • Document each medication and amount resident is taking. Have resident initial medication sheet after receiving medicine.
  • Document residents not arriving by 12:00 a.m.
  • Complete a daily shift summary indicating client and/or security concerns, admission or exit of residents, safety concerns, and items needing immediate attention if warranted.
  • Assist with victim service documentation and reporting.

Transportation Assistance

  • Personal Vehicle.
  • Provide transportation assistance to residents as scheduled by the Shelter Coordinator.
  • Assist clients in completing the paperwork for transportation assistance.

Donations and Supplies Purchases

  • Sort and put items in proper storage within 24 hours of receipt.
  • Maintain pantry in organized manner
  • Check donated items particularly canned goods for expiration date before placing them in pantry.
  • Dispose of damaged items.

Dispense bath linens and personal hygiene products

  • During scheduled work hours give adult a towel and wash cloth one per member of family within 2 hours of family entry into facility.
  • Fill request for personal care items if available within 2 hours of receiving request.
  • Check supply of towels and wash cloths available to be dispensed after 5:00pm and weekends.

Child Care

  • Provide children activities while their parent attends meetings with case manager or completes household responsibilities as requested under child advocate supervision
  • Take children outside to play weather permitting.

General Office and Shelter Assistance

  • Shred papers, files as needed weekly
  • Clean front office space and keep storage room organized daily
  • Enter client data and service information into database daily.
  • Prepare meals and snacks
  • Room and responsibility inspections
  • General cleaning.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes Required

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to domestic violence issues.
  • Willingness to work other shifts or hours as needed.
  • Ability and willingness to take direction from supervisor.
  • Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently as position requires.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations in a calm and productive manner.
  • Strong computer and database skills.
  • Knowledge of local community services available.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of college or high school diploma with two years experience in a social service agency preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – in English.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Windows operating systems with accuracy.
  • Physically capable of lifting children and items weighing up to 40 pounds and evacuating clients in an emergency.
  • Must maintain valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Physically able to sit at desk for long periods of time.
