Introduction:

The Shelter Specialist, Janitorial is responsible for providing supportive services and logistical support to the Emergency Shelter Program during designated shifts, with a strong emphasis on cleaning and sanitation. This position may require a flexible work schedule including some weekend, morning and evening and holiday shifts. This position reports directly the Emergency Shelter Site Lead, and duties may include part Shelter Specialist Janitorial and part Shelter Support (which may include duties such as laundry, serving food, paperwork or clerical duties)

This person is required to be on their feet for most of their shift, and they will experience a substantial amount of walking, bending and lifting. Dependability, responsibility, efficiency, and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully are mandatory skills. Fluency in Spanish is a significant value.

Qualifications:

Possess a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals who present for services with urgent multiple case management and health needs. Ability to perform crisis intervention as needed; Ability to complete job duties that are guest focused, trauma informed, and housing focused.

Shelter Support

Goal: Ensure a safe and client focused environment for guest to quickly end their homelessness.

· Assist in the implementation of shelter activities to ensure quality, guest focused, and trauma informed delivery of services.

· Encourage and discuss progress toward housing with shelter guest

· Provide cleaning and disinfection throughout the facility (especially in restrooms) including but not limited to:

o Sweeping and mopping floors

o Cleaning and disinfecting toilets and urinals

o Cleaning and disinfecting showers and sinks

o Stocking restrooms

o Emptying trash cans

o Disinfecting all touch-surfaces

o Assist with general cleanliness and safety of facility including cleaning-up spills.

· Maintaining detailed and thorough cleaning logs

· Reporting incidents or maintenance issues

Miscellaneous

· Assist with guest services and program activities if necessary

· Complete ad hoc projects as appointed by Supervisor

· Coverage of other shelter zones and duties as needed or as scheduled
