Site/Utility Foreman

Must have previous experience leading utility and excavation crews while operating and be fit for manual labor. Work will also involve site grading, pipe laying, shoring, dewatering and other trades. Experience in all trades is helpful. Work involves utility and excavation work related to the construction of utilities and site work associated with treatment plants, pumping stations, and elevated water storage tanks.

Duties: Your primary responsibilities as a Site/Utility Foreman are the operational planning, installation and repair of all types of structures and water, storm, sewer, gas, and conduit lines and performing site grading activities. You must have a thorough knowledge of excavation, jobsite safety and scheduling for production. You are considered a leader, who must possess the ability to supervise other crew members and perform quality work. You are required to follow all policies and rules of Johnston Construction Company, and to physically assist in each phase of work to be done, which includes, but is not limited to:

1. Read, identify, and understand blueprints related to all above and below ground utilities and excavations. Make sure you are working with up to date blueprints.

2. Set up of lasers and/or transits for pipe installation and grading operations.

3. Make sure there is enough of the following correct materials on site for today's and tomorrow's work:

a. The right type and quantity of stone.

b. Calculate the required quantity of topsoil, fill, waste, backfill materials and coordinate with estimate. Ensure these materials being handled and used in the work efficiently.

c. The right size and amount of pipe and connectors.

d. The correct gaskets, retainers, and bolts.

e. Pipe soap, grease, PVC cement, mastic, and chlorine.

f. Sakrete for immediate use and/or concrete ordered as needed.

4. Make sure the following tools are on site and in working order:

a. Transit

b. Laser

c. De-watering pumps

d. Tapping machine

e. Tampers

f. Pipe Saw

g. Hand tools

5. Make sure the excavation is properly shored, sloped, or sheeted before anyone enters.

6. Check to see that the proper stone and/or back fill material is ordered for the job as needed.

7. Visually check for utilities, if utility locates are not marked or cannot be defined, check with the Engineer before you dig.

Skills: The position of a site/utility Foreman require the individual to possess the physical and mental ability to perform the following tasks for a minimum of 8 hours per day.

1. Negotiate rough terrain.

2. Climb in and out of manholes, excavations, and/or other confined or enclosed spaces.

3. Climb ladders to a maximum height of 45 feet. Work at heights when necessary.

4. Carry and use trade associated tools, equipment, or material up to a weight of 95 pounds.

5. Push, pull, load, and unload tools, equipment, or materials.

6. Stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb, or walk.

7. Purchase, wear and maintain safety equipment as required by the type of work you are performing or when directed by your Supervisor or the Safety Department. These items must be purchased/worn immediately upon employment.

8. Know how to identify, safely operate and maintain all HAND TOOLS to include: hammers, pliers, tapes, hand saws, screwdrivers, shovels, knives, levels, wrenches, digging bars, etc.

9. Know how to identify and safely operate all FUEL, AIR, and ELECTRIC SMALL TOOLS to include: pipe saws, chain saws, pumps, generators, plate tampers, jumping jacks, jackhammers, rivet busters, chipping guns, rotary hammers, clay spades, vibrators, circular saws, drills, etc.

10. Know how to identify fuels (gasoline, diesel, mixed gas), and know which fuel is used to operate each small tool and compressors.

11. Know how to identify and safely operate all GENERAL EQUIPMENT to include air compressors, arrow boards, rollers, Bidwell-Concrete Screed, gas testers, fire extinguishers, etc.

12. Know how to identify Company TRUCKS to include compressor, service, dump, plate, boom, vactor, and lowboy.

13. Know how to operate Company EQUIPMENT to include backhoes, loaders, trackhoes, cranes, skid steers, etc.

14. Posses the ability to understand, remember, and follow work related instructions or methods.
