Summary

Ski lift operators are responsible for operating ski lifts, which help skiers ascend hills and mountains. Ski lifts are large mechanical machines that use cables and other equipment to move people up a hill or mountain in an efficient manner.

Ski lift operators must be able to operate their equipment safely and efficiently while also ensuring the safety of all passengers on board. They may need to monitor various gauges and indicators to ensure everything is running smoothly, as well as respond to any emergencies that might arise during the course of a day's work.

Ski Lift Operator Job Duties:

Ski lift operators have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

• Monitoring maintenance schedules for equipment inspection and repair work
• Responding to emergencies such as lost skiers or injured lift operators
• Maintaining accurate records of daily lift operations
• Operating and monitoring equipment including chairlifts, conveyors, and bull wheels
• Reporting accidents or unsafe conditions to supervisors
• Operating a ski lift to transport skiers up the mountain and making sure they are secured before they depart
• Performing safety inspections of lift equipment daily to ensure safe operation
• Operating a lift control panel to start and stop the lift.

Qualifications:

• Previous customer service and/or laboring experience is preferred but not necessary.
• Intermediate level skiing or snowboarding ability is preferred but not necessary
• Must be at least 17 years old

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Good work ethic and dependability
• Excellent customer service & communication skills

Physical and Mental Demands:

This position works primarily outside and requires prolonged periods of standing and walking on slippery and/or uneven snow or icy surfaces. Must remain alert and attentive at all times. Shoveling large volumes of snow and/or ice is required.

Work Environment:

This position involves working outside in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind and rain, on varied snow surfaces, and requires being on your feet for the majority of the scheduled shift. Sometime will be spent inside, but inside time still requires alertness and attention to the lift and passengers. Varying traffic levels mean that some days are extremely busy while other days are much slower.

Winter coat and snow pants are provided as part of the uniform.
