SMALL BUSINESS COACH

DEPARTMENT: EDUCATION & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
REPORTS TO: EDUCATION & EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS MANAGER
CLASSIFICATION: 1 (FTE), NON-EXEMPT, FULL-TIME, 40 HOURS PER WEEK, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, WITH SOME EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS. ELIGIBLE FOR TELECOMMUTING. LOCAL TRAVEL REQUIRED
SALARY: $22.00 - $24.00 PER HOUR (COMMENSURATE WITH EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)

COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS: All employees must have completed a COVID-19 vaccine series that has been authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or by the World Health Organization (WHO) before beginning work.

The Urban League of Portland Small Business Coach provides support to small businesses to build capacity and ensure long business success. The Small Business Coach will work with small business owners to develop a business plan/map, support access to small business resources, and resent or coordinate small business training. The Coach will work with a cohort of small businesses each quarter providing both individualized one-on-one support and group business coaching and mentorship as well as connections to community resources.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

COMMUNITY OUTREACH:

Conduct ongoing community outreach to reach small businesses through the following activities:

  • Direct outreach through program fliers, social media, visiting local gathering areas (e.g., churches, laundromats, beauty salons, workshop/community meetings, meetups, job fairs/tradeshows, and neighborhood meetings/forums).
  • Collaboration with internal resources, community partners, local Black-owned small businesses, and other community-related small business supports.
  • Develop and establish rapport and contact with area businesses and employers as well as large employers.


CUSTOMER SUPPORT:

  • Provide one-on-one support through business coaching activities, such as screening and assessment, business mapping, bidding, and estimating, individualized administrative function review and coaching, development of marketing material, soft skills training, etc.
  • Provide referrals (and follow-up) to community resources, businesses/employers, partners, and mentorship opportunities.
  • Provide support and coordination of group activities, small business and/or construction-specific panel discussions, and workgroups and provide and/or referrals to construction-specific training.
  • Collaborate with technical experts to provide focused technical assistance training to participants.


CASE MANAGEMENT AND TRACKING:

  • Track and input (in required database) individual information, services, and performance progress
  • Track and input (in required database) group activities such as, program and number of attendees
  • Track and input (in required database) outreach to partners and service providers, such as activities, number of participants, and outcome
  • Track business connections and developed community resources
  • Track and input (in required database) other applicable deliverables required.

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

  • Maintain a relationship with funding partner, through activities such as: participating in monthly, adhoc, and Workforce Navigator team meetings as needed and active participation with strategic and focused outreach.
  • Report and monitor deliverables (including quarterly reports, success stories, and expenditures)
  • Contribute to the overall agency efforts by completing other duties as assigned.
