Solutions Engineer - Front-End Focus (Remote - Salt Lake City, UT or United States) Job at PDQ

PDQ Remote

PDQ, founded in Salt Lake City, UT, makes device management simple, secure, and Pretty Damn Quick. IT teams use our products to reduce complexity, improve efficiency, and enhance control in their unique environments. We are backed by TA Associates, a top-tier global PE fund. SimpleMDM and SmartDeploy are powered by PDQ.

Compensation Range: $87,000 - $97,000 DOE

PDQ is seeking a front-end focused Solutions Engineer to help in two areas:

Wrangling tickets
, but not your run-of-the-mill "the printer does not work" tickets. These are the top-shelf tickets where you help other administrators like you with PDQ Deploy, PDQ Inventory, PDQ Connect.

Application customization and integration
. We use Zendesk, and we like it. But we're PowerShell and Python sysadmins, so HTML, CSS, JavaScript and general Zendesk customization is something we're terrible at. We're looking for an administrator thinking about career growth in front-end development, either in addition to administration skills or eventually transitioning to full-time front-end (or even full stack) development.

Because our applications rely heavily on a functional networked ecosystem, you'll experience a wide variety of environments and setups. We're looking for candidates with more than just familiarity with our products – you'll bring a solid background as a sysadmin and want to grow with our ever-expanding company, potentially transitioning to development.

How you might spend your day:

  • Assisting customers with questions and issues, typically via email. And again, we'll plug the fact that you'll work with our stellar system administrator customers. No more fixing printer jams or replacing batteries in wireless mice
  • Planning and working on Zendesk customization or API integration with any number of our customer-facing sites, Help Centers, in-product support (eventually maybe), or our internal sales, marketing, and development tools
  • Creating and maintaining documentation and content, including various guides and KB articles. If you're comfortable on-camera, maybe even contributing to our video library and weekly webcasts
  • Being on the front line for bug reports to translate and deliver the worst of the worst for the development teams to tackle
  • Fielding feature requests and feedback from customers that delight and guide the development teams
  • Lending a helping hand to other teams and departments by answering questions or collaborating on puzzles and problems

Who you are:

  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills - you're going to be a better troubleshooter than most/all of your peers
  • Eager to learn and collaborative - You're the kind of person who, if you don't understand something, will Google it and figure it out; when you don't know something, you learn it
  • Thorough understanding of Windows, Active Directory, DNS, networking, credentials, and GPOs
  • Intimate knowledge of PDQ Deploy and PDQ Inventory - you use or used them both regularly
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, API integrations, and other front-end wizardry. You're going to do some customization and integration with Zendesk, so a working knowledge of the technologies involved is essential
  • Some experience with agent-based deployment solutions (SCCM, ConnectWise Automate, Kaseya, Intune, etc.)
  • Knowledge of how to silently install/deploy Windows applications in a variety of ways outside of using PDQ products
  • Extra Credit: Scripting experience using PowerShell (or Bash or Python)

Tools we use:

  • Zendesk
  • Office 365
  • VMware
  • Slack
  • Linear
  • Confluence
Do you think you have what it takes but don’t necessarily meet all the requirements? Apply anyway - you could be exactly who we are looking for!

PDQ offers all of the great perks and benefits you'd expect from working at a very cool tech company, and even some you might not expect, including:
4-Day Work Week
Managers who champion professional development and are technically experienced (the best kind of experience)
100% Premium Coverage for medical, dental and vision for you and your dependents
100% Premium Coverage for Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Life, and AD&D Insurance
Company match of the first 6% of your team member deferrals
Flexible Paid Time Off Policy that treats you like the adult that you are
Health Savings Account (HSA) and wellness incentives
Quarterly Company Values Award (team member nominated)
