What We Are Looking For:

The Sound Designer is an expert audio editor and engineer with experience in scripted podcasts. The ideal candidate is forward thinking and creative in their approach to podcasting, and has their finger on the pulse of emerging audio technology. The Sound Designer is responsible for recording, cleaning, editing, mixing and mastering audio for AT WILL MEDIA projects, with an emphasis on processing, ambience layering, and exploration of ambisonic audio formats. This candidate is passionate about capturing and processing great sound, has an ear for pacing and world building, gives effortless attention to detail, and is dedicated to delivering a superior audio product. The Sound Designer will report to the Director of Post-Production.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Ownership of audio processes and fidelity across projects as assigned.
  • Assist recording sessions with deep understanding of audio technology and remote recording software.
  • Maintain high quality of audio-first performance, either remotely or in-person (location and project dependent).
  • Clean, edit, tighten, mix and master final episodes.
  • Utilize sound design libraries to place additional ambience and SFX to enhance the sonic palette of each episode (with a close ear on the cohesion of a series).
  • Collaborate with teammates at all levels, including producers, writers, story editors, hosts, and celebrity talent to ensure workflow efficiency and meet deadlines.
  • Source and, when appropriate, create additional field tape, archival assets, and audio elements such as sound effects or music stems in partnership with the Production team.
  • Create and maintain the sonic brand and aesthetic of assigned shows.
  • Fine-tune mixes and deliver multiple rounds of revisions.
  • Organize and maintain naming conventions, folder hierarchies, and project assets.


Qualifications & Skills

  • 4-6 years experience working in podcast production, broadcast, or relevant audio experience.
  • Experience in scripted fiction podcasts preferred
  • 5+ years experience editing audio and dialog in Pro Tools.
  • 3-5 years experience in sound design for film, television, video games, podcasts, and/or theater.
  • Experience in recording, editing, and processing foley sound effects.
  • Experience mixing in Dolby Atmos, Binaural, and other multichannel formats preferred.
  • Audio restoration expertise using iZotope RX
  • Strong understanding of gain staging, signal flow, and audio broadcast standards.
  • Working knowledge of podcasting best practices, including appropriate software and equipment, as well as how to “tech check,” troubleshoot, and quality control during tapings and throughout post-production.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, multitask, and work with a sense of urgency across multiple projects simultaneously.

Job Type: Full Time Contract (4 month)

Salary: $1,538 - $1,634 per week (weekly equivalent of $80,000-$85,000 annually)

Location: In response to COVID-19, this position is currently remote. Candidates based in NYC or LA preferred, but we are open to a remote situation for the right candidate.
