Position: Supervisor of Special Education Services/Transition Coordinator

Circumstances: Staff Resignation

Job Goal: To provide educational leadership and perform duties necessary for the successful delivery of special education and related services.

Certification/

Qualifications: 1. Masters Degree in Special Education or Administration.

2. Current Michigan K-12 administrator certification.
3. Michigan approval as a Supervisor of Special Education or eligible for State of Michigan approval or temporary approval as Supervisor of Special Education pursuant to Rule 340.1751.

4. Valid Michigan teaching certificate with endorsement in at least one area of special education.

5. Three years of experience in special education programs/services.

6. Knowledge of State of Michigan special education rules and regulations, staff management, corrective discipline, finance, knowledge of state and federal special education law, knowledge of or direct work experience with departments/programs to be supervised.

7. Experience working in programs for students with special needs.

8. Prior administrative experience.

9. Additional qualifications and alternatives to the above as the

Board of Education may deem appropriate.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Assist in the formulation of budgets and final reports for programs assigned.
2. Facilitate effective operation of center based and outlying programs operated by the

Montcalm Area Intermediate School District.

3. Coordinate planning and placement for students in the programs being supervised.
4. Transition Coordinator/Support local districts and ISD with transition compliance.
5. Coordinate and facilitate MET and IEPT/IFSP meetings for assigned programs.
6. Supervise and evaluate personnel in special education programs and services, as assigned.
6. Facilitate special education public awareness.
7. Demonstrated ability to handle conflict productively.
8. Ability to speak to individuals one-on-one to and to provide presentations.
9. Ability to drive between ISD buildings, local school districts and to workshops, meetings and conferences throughout the state.

10. Ability to attend occasional evening and weekend activities.
11. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Performance

Responsibilities:

1. Maintain and supervise Special Education staff to fulfill ISD/State/Federal reporting and compliance functions for programs assigned (which includes transition coordinator responsibilities)

2. Provide technical assistance regarding state/federal legal requirements pertaining to students with disabilities.

3. Coordinate and assign Special Education staff pursuant to referrals and immediate placements for area/county programs.

4. Coordinate all things county wide related to Transition (post-secondary) including SPP B13 compliance. This includes local district and ISD audits, training, and support.

5. Assist with recruitment, hiring, evaluation and professional development and program evaluation.

6. Provide leadership for area program curriculum development and program evaluation.

7. Coordinate referral for and provisions of services to local students by other area programs, the MAISD or other contracted agencies or services.

8. Assist in the coordination of Special Education services with Head Start, Early-On, Local

School Districts or other contracted agencies or individuals.

9. Attend LEA Board, Administrative Staff and building meetings as required.

10. Attend IEPT/IFSP’s for area programs.

11. Participate in school improvement.

12. Assist with professional development of Special Education program staff, as well as with

General Education Staff in regard to topics jointly impacting Special and General Education.

13. Provide technical assistance for building level interventions, Section 504 or other pre-referral intervention processes.

14. Attend MAISD Board, Parent Advisory Committee, Administrative Staff, County Ancillary

Staff or other county-wide meetings as assigned.

15. Participate in the development of county-wide policies and procedures for Special Education.

16. Represent the MAISD at State/Regional meetings as assigned.

17. Provide technical assistance in personal areas of expertise to the ISD or other Area/Local programs as assigned.
