We are looking for a Special Education Teacher responsible for planning and providing input, development and implementation of individualized education programs and instruction in behavioral and academic areas in collaboration with other educational professionals, parents and administrators. Depending upon assignment and license, Special Education Teachers provide specialized instruction in addressing student needs and learning.

TREK is a federal Setting 4 special education program designed for students who have been identified as having severe communication or neurological disorders. The target population for this program includes students who have been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorders or Developmental Cognitive Disorders and exhibit behavioral patterns which negatively affect the ability to interact with peers or adults in the regular school setting. TREK provides program solutions to effectively create an environment of successful learners.

Assignment: 8 hours/day for 182 day school year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Plans, develops and writes individualized learning plans, objectives, learning strategies and behavior management plans for students with special needs and lesson plans for instruction.

  • Modifies goals and objectives based on student progress data.
  • Plans and provides general education teachers with teaching strategies.
  • In-services other staff regarding specialized instructional needs, equipment, and strategies.
  • Participates in determining eligibility evaluations and IEPs initial and review meetings to address student and educational needs.

Provides classroom instruction in academic areas and curriculum with regard to the individualized educational plan of students and their needs.

  • Plans, prepares and delivers lessons to students.
  • Ensures due process timelines are met considering student's age/birth date, IEP dates, and evaluation dates for consistency in workload throughout the school year.
  • Teaches to appropriate levels of difficulty.
  • Adapts curriculum and materials to best meet the needs of students.
  • Assesses student progress and determining the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional plans/techniques/IEPs/goals.
  • Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to best meet the needs of students and district learning outcomes.
  • Prepares lesson plans for specific direct instruction.

Addresses and performs crisis intervention and behavioral interventions. Oversees classroom management in accordance with policies, guidelines and procedures.

Ensures due process timelines are met considering student's age/birth date, IEP dates, and evaluation dates for consistency in workload throughout the school year.

Collaborates and works with parents, students, other instructional personnel in addressing behavioral, academic or emotional issues and assists in the development or revision of appropriate interventions as situations arise or occur.

Collaborates and consults with special education staff, case managers, paraprofessionals, parents and other professional staff involved with the student in the areas of fine/visual motor, sensory processing, functional/self help and assistive technology in formulating a comprehensive program.

Provides work guidance, training, and coordination over paraprofessional staff.

Documents and maintains accurate and complete records of student progress and learning. Prepares and completes all due process paperwork required and/or mandated by federal and state laws, rules and regulations.

Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Special Education
  • Current State of MN Teacher License
  • MN driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility
  • May be required to have other licenses or certifications depending upon specialized needs of the Cooperative (e.g. Physical Disabilities, Sign Language, Braille, Early Childhood, etc.)

MAWSECO is located immediately west of Minneapolis and south of St. Cloud.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $44,183.00 - $79,708.00 per year
