Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, serves as manager at the Public Health Laboratory in Waycross, GA. Acts as general supervisor as defined by the 1988 Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).


  • Supervises laboratory personnel.
  • Ensures staff competencies are documented and up to date.
  • Reviews laboratory testing data and reports for validity and accuracy.
  • Reviews and revises laboratory procedure manuals.
  • Manages customer service and inventory.
  • Performs high complexity testing.
  • Implements and ensures compliance with DPH and GPHL Quality Assurance procedures and policies.
  • Participates in lab audits and surveys.
  • Employs and participates in workforce development activities.
  • Oversees compliance with biosafety and security procedures.
  • Prepares for and responds to emergency events.
  • Adheres to HIPPA safety and security policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a hard science from an accredited college or university AND Seven years of supervisory experience in a laboratory setting

OR

Bachelor's degree in any related discipline from an accredited college or university AND Ten years of related experience, Seven of which must be in leadership/administrative role

OR

Two years of experience at the lower level (LSM011) or position equivalent.

Note: Must meet state clinical laboratory licensure personnel requirements as "technologist" and federal (CLIA '88) requirement for "high complexity" technical supervisor.

DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.
