PURPOSEThe purpose of this position is to provide paralegal services to the Sr. Legal Counsel, ensuring all tasks related to the inhouse Legal Department are fully supported. This role offers opportunities to work with the Compliance function.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Conducts ad-hoc legal research, prepares first drafts of addendums, correspondences, reports, and other documents
  • Analyzes contract issues to be resolved, and conducts any necessary research regarding contract negotiation, past practices, plan requirements, and compliance and risk management related research
  • Ensures that all new and revised executed agreements are accurately updated in the contract database system
  • Communicates and resolves contract issues
  • Coordinates with Fund staff to ensure that contracts can be administered effectively
  • Investigates unresolved contract issues
  • Maintains knowledge of provider partners, key vendors, and their nuances
  • Develops effective working relationships with peer paralegals and other colleagues of the Legal function throughout the Fund
  • Collaborates with Compliance on compliance-related projects as assigned
  • Evaluates existing processes of the Legal department for improvement as necessary, including drafting additional policies and procedures
  • Performs general administrative tasks relating to the day-to-day functions of the Legal department
  • Monitors Legal email inbox and promptly acts on time-sensitive matters, including scheduling meetings to ensure progress
  • Assists with compiling reports relating to the Legal Department for Trustee Workgroup and other meetings
  • Primary contact for legal and business services inquiries
  • Ensures electronic and hard copy document management files are kept up to date (including filing of emails and correspondence) when active and once closed that they are archived
  • Identifies and retrieves information necessary to support legal decision-making
  • Sets goals and achieve measurable results

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Years of Experience and Knowledge

  • 3 ~ 5 years of related experience minimum in contract review, interpretation and drafting
  • Working knowledge and experience with Unions and/or Employers on collective bargaining issues preferred
  • Working knowledge and experience in employee benefits/Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) preferred
  • *Education, Licenses, and Certifications
  • Associate degree in the legal field or related field or equivalent work experience required
  • Preferred: Certification in Paralegal studies
