Summary:

We are looking for Senior Writer/Editors to work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the Roybal Campus in Atlanta, GA. The CDC is the nation's premier health promotion, prevention, and preparedness agency. The Senior Writer/Editor will report to Goldbelt Professional Services leadership to ensure the execution of timely, high-quality deliverables for the client.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Support the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Disease
  • Write, edit, craft communications coming from the Office of the Director
  • Work as part of the internal communication team, joins team discussions to determine topics, approach, and priorities to draft messages.
  • Maintain a list of upcoming events and plans accordingly to submit first drafts to leadership in a timely manner for reviews, feedback and final approval.
  • Conduct prep calls with senior leadership to discuss scripts, talking points or speeches, depending on the event, content, and audience.
  • Support the strategic communication team
  • Collect staff feedback, internal communication metrics (i.e., # of participants, questions asked, answer provided)
  • Notetaking and action items follow-up
  • Drafts answers to NCIRD Listens on behalf of Director
  • Archive all scripts and final presentations
  • Draft content for OD News & Notes
  • Drafts/edits annual internal comms report

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience developing and writing speeches, talking points, and other communication for executives, including all hands meetings, scripts for videos or podcasts, and internal communication messages for staff.
  • Ability to translate ideas and discussions into messages applicable for senior executives’ presentations, or to be added to internal announcements, staff newsletters, intranet, or SharePoint (internal page).
  • Experienced in leading technical writing and editing project deliverables.
  • Experienced in writing and editing for internal and external audiences regarding preparedness and response activities.
  • Ability to provide swift documentation updates of infectious disease trends, research, and prevention programs.
  • Experienced in performing web and print communications activities, assist in the ongoing assessment and evaluation of communication material impact and effectiveness.
  • Knowledgeable in partnering with internal and external audiences in the development of response materials.
  • Experienced with developing communication resources for federal, state, and local public health partners.
  • Support emergency response activities with oral, visual, and written communication product development and reviews.
  • Independently manage projects and initiatives assigned through development of work plan and the delivery of progress reports.
  • Ability to lead technical writing and editing of project deliverables.
  • Maintain technical proficiency required to perform job functions in various systems; e. g., document databases, email systems, SharePoint, Internet browsers, and application software such as MS Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with scientific terminology, regulatory writing styles, standards & procedures, and Government Plain language guidance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in interpersonal exchanges.
  • Ability to demonstrate diplomacy and work professionally and collegially with a highly educated, scientific customer base that is under pressure and in the public eye every day.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently, be solution-oriented, motivated, and committed to customer and company success.
  • Ability to handle a variety of constituencies, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment while balancing multiple competing priorities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CDC Public Trust Clearance.
