Come be a part of the Young Life College team in the capital city of Kansas! For years, Topeka has been a ripe place for the Gospel to move forward. The Lord has used Young Life to serve the community for more than 20 years, and Washburn Young Life is an important piece of the ministry.

Young Life’s staff associate role requires a dynamic, vibrant personality who will lead the charge of Young Life. This person is a self-starter with a high sense of drive and a missional mindset. She or he loves the Lord and has a growing spiritual life outside of the ministry. This person possesses the perseverance to ask, inspire and motivate volunteers and students in the ministry. This position must be able to multitask and prioritize what is necessary for the ministry at any given time. We are looking for someone who is mature in his or her faith and looking to help others do the same.

The Young Life College team builds relationships with college students and young adults, shows up in their lives daily, invites students to take their next steps in following Jesus, and loves them regardless of their response. In Topeka, the largest opportunity for those relationships is on the campus of Washburn University where our leaders have an opportunity to continue relationships with Shawnee County students or begin a new friendship with individuals from across the world.

On top of this comes to the opportunity to serve a larger role on the metro team of Topeka Young Life. Our team is made up of more than 100 volunteer leaders, staff and committee members who come alongside students in high school, middle school, YoungLives and Capernaum ministries.

Responsibilities:

  • Introducing college students to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith.
  • Demonstrate spiritual leadership on a personal and corporate level.
  • Develop a community of volunteer leaders to work with adolescents.
  • Assist the area in training, discipleship and development of volunteer leaders and staff.
  • Oversee events, clubs and small groups.
  • Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.
  • Participate in dynamic direct ministry with college students.

Qualifications:

  • Has a relationship with Jesus Christ and is actively growing in ways outside of the Young Life ministry.
  • Grasps the idea of “relational ministry” and earning the right to be heard in the community.
  • Is a servant leader who is teachable, innovative, collaborative and flexible.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in developing people.
  • Lives in Christian community and is an active participant in a local church body.
