NDDOT Hiring Salary: $8,112 / month

Summary of Work

At the North Dakota Department of Transportation, we owe our success to our people and processes. As a Section Lead at the Transportation Technology Research Initiative (TTRI) at UND in Grand Forks, you will be responsible for supervising and leading the TTRI Section to ensure designs, plans and estimates are prepared for bridges, stream crossing structures, and ancillary structures in accordance with applicable design codes and standards to meet assigned bid openings. You will provide leadership, discipline, mentoring, training, and guidance. The ideal person for this position must possess networking, leadership, prioritization, and time management skills to manage projects with a student workforce that is continually changing. Must be a problem solver with excellent communication skills and attention to detail with previous experience in civil engineering with a focus on structures and hydraulics. Primary duties associated with this position are as follows:

• Recruit, evaluate, hire, and develop Student Design Assistants. Fulfill the partnership between UND and the NDDOT.

• Supervision and Leadership: Administer the work within the TTRI at UND.

• Preliminary Engineering & Hydraulics: Prepare environmental documents, conduct field reviews, TS&L’s, and hydraulic analysis, and conduct public meetings for stand-alone bridge rehabilitation and replacement projects on the state system.

• Structural Design & Analysis: Ensure analysis is in accordance with applicable AASHTO design specifications and the NDDOT Design Manual to provide plans and estimates that are accurate, thorough, and complete.

• Project Management and Review: Coordinate activities and assign tasks to deliver projects on schedule to meet assigned bid openings.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a focus on structures and hydraulics.
• Four years of professional-level engineering work experience.
• Registration as a professional engineer in North Dakota.
• Requires a class D driver’s license for travel to meetings and project locations.
