Student Research Assistant - Orthopedic Surgery

Job Summary:
The Research Assistant is responsible for collecting information according to the research study protocols. The Research Assistant conducts testing and collects data from biological samples for research studies. In addition, the Research Assistant assists in writing reports and publications. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:
Prepares and orders study related materials.
Maintains supply inventory.
Obtains, screens, and harvests cartilage samples.
Utilizes approved procedures.
Writes and creates assessments utilizing standard research protocol.
Monitors experiments as required by study protocol.
Conducts tensile testing with cartilage specimens
Conducts wear testing with cartilage specimens
Conducts friction testing with cartilage specimens
Conducts rheological analyses
Helps maintain study procedure documentation.
Maintains study records and edits for completeness and accuracy.
Analyzes data and drafts data reports.
Participates in the preparation and delivery of presentations to disseminate study findings.
Assists in grant proposal and manuscript writing.
Assists in communications with researchers and members of tribology lab.
Assists with lab cleaning and equipment maintenance.
May utilize study-related devices and equipment as part of assessment procedures.
Attends regular team meetings.
Troubleshoots issues when necessary.

Required Job Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED required.
Entry level proficiency in Microsoft Office, including spreadsheets and databases.
Detail oriented with high attention to accuracy.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to develop rapport with a diverse pool of research participants.
Ability to navigate sensitive topics and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to collaborate within multi-disciplinary team settings.
May require training depending on study protocols.
Availability to work evenings, overnight and weekends if called for under the study protocols.
May require personal transportation to obtain tissue for testing.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Prior work with research study protocols preferred.
