Description
A Student Worker position is available in the Department of Pulmonary & Critical Care to work concurrently with the Department of Physiology on the CARC Analytical Core at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans.
Some of the duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Processing and storage of patient and monkey samples when needed, as well as preparation of samples to be used in different assays. These assays will include: alcohol assays, viral load, DNA extraction, qRT-PCR, preparation of samples for Pet-Assay
- Help in the preparation of sample sets for use with the Bio-Plex system
- Updating monkey data base (sample storage, clinical data abstraction, data entry, data analysis)
- Serve as liaison between animal & clinical cores, analytical core laboratory & research projects laboratories
Qualifications
- Full-time student status at an accredited college or university
- Committed to working 20 hours per week (excluding lunch breaks) during the school semesters
- Committed to work up to 40 hours per week during holiday breaks and summer months
- Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access
- Understand how to use and input data into databases
- Good communication skills and high capacity to work in groups
- Good oral and written skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability and experience to work in BSL-2 laboratories
