About the position:

While special education experience nor a current Oregon Teaching License are required, candidates without a TSPC license must be willing to obtain a Restricted Substitute Teaching License through TSPC. Bachelor’s degree required.

The auxiliary teacher carries out the duties in the absence or in conjunction with the teacher of record. Assignment of an auxiliary teacher is temporary during an absence of a teacher, when additional classroom support is needed or temporarily while a teacher vacancy is being filled. Auxiliary teacher positions are assigned to a specific location but expected to fill assignments in other locations as needed. This position organizes and delivers the program of instruction based on approved curriculum; monitors, evaluates, and communicates student progress; maintains records and makes reports; enforces Board policies, regulations, and rules; supervises students, and secures and maintains school property and materials.

Programs served include:

Life Enrichment Education Program (LEEP):
The Life Enrichment Education Program (LEEP) provides specially designed instruction and related services for eligible Clackamas County students, ages 5-21 years. Students attend self-contained classrooms in schools located throughout the county. The curriculum focuses on personal management, communication, practical living skills, vocational skills, leisure and recreation activities, and social skills. Based on the individual needs of each student, the ESD offers speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, adaptive PE, and nursing support. LEEP also provides an extended school year program in the summer for students who would regress because of a lengthy educational recess.

Heron Creek Program:
The Heron Creek Programs assess the collective strengths of students, families, schools and the community to develop collaborative plans, enabling students with significant social, emotional, behavioral and academic challenges to learn and use skills to meet their educational goals in the least restrictive environment. The Heron Creek Programs will be differentiated from behavioral classrooms in the inclusive approach of the team. The programs are evidence-based with an emphasis on family participation; integration of education and school based mental health service throughout the day, as well as the maintenance of continuous connections between the student, family and local school district personnel. The program will emphasize strengths-based assessment and collaboration with local systems of care.

About Clackamas Education Service District (CESD):

Clackamas Education Service District is one of Oregon's 19 ESDs charged with providing programs for children with special needs, technology support, school improvement, and administrative services to local school districts and the Oregon Department of Education. Clackamas ESD serves ten school districts in Clackamas County, including Canby, Colton, Estacada, Gladstone, Lake Oswego, Molalla River, North Clackamas, Oregon City, Oregon Trail, and West Linn-Wilsonville.

Essential functions:

  • Leads and assists the teaching of individual and small groups of students in relevant areas of instruction including academics, adaptive skills, communication, self-care, social skills, community access and work
  • Leads and assists the implementation of support designed by the related services staff including students' personal care needs including (i.e. feeding, toileting, physical positional changes)
  • Ensures the performance of delegated nursing services consistent with each student's individual needs
  • Responds to students’ escalated behavior in manner consistent with behavior support plans, safety plans, program philosophy and CESD Board policies
  • May be assigned to classrooms on a permanent basis, as needed

Minimum qualifications:

  • Current Oregon teaching license, or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to follow and implement a complex scheduling and time management techniques in the daily operation of the instructional program
  • Ability to direct, communicate and delegate to two or more educational assistants
  • Ability to complete appropriate Oregon approved behavioral intervention training to carry out interventions and become a trainer as directed by administrators
  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and Type 10 vehicle certification

Salary: There are two salary options available, depending on candidate preference:

1) $48,241 - $93,461. Placement on the current salary schedule, based on education and experience. See the 2022-23 Licensed Salary Schedule: www.clackesd.org/human-resources/.

2) $300 daily sub rate, not eligible to receive medical, dental, or vision insurance coverage.
