    OVERVIEW
    Bayfield School District is seeking a Suburban Driver/ Bus Aide to work roughly 5 hours per day to provide safe and efficient suburban transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s curriculum and extracurricular programs. This position will also assist as a bus aide during AM and PM bus routes.

    Bayfield School District is located in the mountains of Southwest Colorado and is a short drive to Purgatory Resort, Wolf Creek Ski Area, and historic Durango.     QUALIFICATION
    • Maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
    • Clean driving record
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Be a minimum of 21 years of age, have a satisfactory driving record as determined by the Board of Education and acceptable to district’s insurance carrier.
    • Must be able to pass Small Vehicle and Driving Performance tests that are required annually by CDE
    • Must be able to pass Mountain Driving and Adverse Weather tests that are performed prior to hire; Confident and cautious driving in inclement weather conditions
    • Strong communication skills, ability to handle confidential matters properly, excellent tact, interpersonal skills and compassion.
    • Enjoys children and possesses a positive attitude
    • Must obtain First Aid within 3 months of employment
    • Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check.
    • Completed and submitted BSD on-line application.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    To perform this job s uccessfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following essential functions satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are r epresentative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     • Perform and record pre/post trip safety inspections as required daily, report any defects or deficiencies
    • Vehicle must be clean at all times, swept/vacuumed, dusted and windows cleaned
    • Obey all traffic laws
    • Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school transport
    • Enforce rules in accordance with school district policies
    • Maintain discipline with students in the vehicle and follow established student discipline procedures, being firm, friendly and fair; learn the students names and their individual needs and/or intervention program. Do not make your own rules.
    • Report undisciplined children to the Transportation Director using the Bus Conduct sheets available to you.
    • Notify dispatch in case of mechanical failure or tardiness; complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Report as needed; report other concerns appropriately
    • Discharge students only at authorized stops
    • Transport only authorized students or other authorized persons
    • Report all accidents and complete required reports
    • Know the proper procedure for emergency evacuation including location and use of emergency equipment;
    • Cell phone may only be used for school business and only when vehicle is stopped in a safe zone. NO talking on cell phones when driving the vehicle.
    • For returning employees, take and pass all required annual tests and/or certifications
    • Ride bus routes when needed as a transportation aide, that may include care of assigned students as well as general help with students on bus.
    • Attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities; attend training to increase skills as required
    • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues and community.
    • Follow State legal requirements and District and building policies and procedures.
    • Inspire and work collaboratively with staff members and the community.
    • Commit to the district vision of Each Student, Each Day: Wolverine Way.
    • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION A ND T RAINING
    • High School Diploma or equivalent

    SALARY
    Per the Bayfield School District transportation salary schedule based on education and years of experience.
