As a Survey Crew Chief, you will perform challenging technical assignments in construction surveying, perform and check technical calculations and minor field redesign to maintain designated project time frames. Work requires the exercise of a high degree of independent judgment and initiative. Supervision is exercised over personnel, and assignments require the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. A successful person in this position is provided with one or more daily tasks to carry out within the planned schedule.


This is an advanced technical and supervisory field position in land surveying primarily serving the construction industry in central Indiana.


The Construction Survey Crew Chief:

  • Serves as crew chief of a land surveying crew, supervises work, takes notes, makes sketches, takes photos of existing features and site conditions, and contacts applicable parties.
  • Communicates effectively with client’s project site management team in order to establish expectations for the daily tasks.
  • Understands the basics of site construction, coordination and scheduling.
  • Performs necessary field calculations.
  • With sufficient specialized training, experience and certification, may perform 3-D LiDAR or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) surveys.

Qualifications

  • High school or G.E.D. and eight (8) years experience in survey work; or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver License.
  • Certified Survey Technician levels I through IV are desired but not a prerequisite.
  • Strong understanding of the principles, techniques and practices of land surveying.
  • Knowledge of construction specifications, plans, and regulations relating to construction and higher level mathematical applications to survey computations.
  • Skill in the use of land survey instruments and equipment.
  • Ability to supervise, direct and coordinate survey crew activities and train crew members in all aspects of survey work.
  • Ability to perform difficult technical computations.
  • Desire to succeed in an industry that requires sufficient physical stamina for the daily tasks.
  • Ability to travel if required for periods of up to 1 week in length.
