SURVEY TECHNICIAN-INSTRUMENT MAN

General Summary

This is a full-time land surveying position performing Survey Technician/Instrument Man duties including but not limited to: construction staking, as-builts, boundary, topographic, ALTA/ASCM land title, and lot surveys.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

· Performs field work related to all types of surveys, including boundary surveys, as-builts, construction layout, topographic mapping, ALTA/ASCM land title and high accuracy control networks

· Accurately use survey instruments including GPS, robotic total stations, level and other electronic measuring devices with electronic data collecting capabilities

· Performs mathematical calculations

· Reads and understands survey map data and construction plans

· Takes accurate and legible survey notes

· Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS | SKILLS

Education, Licenses and Certifications

· A high school education is required, college education (Preferred not required), including a background in math, geometry and trigonometry (Preferred not required)

· CST Certification (Preferred not required)

Knowledge and Experience

· Experienced in mapping or construction layout; Interest in Land Surveying, or construction as a career

· Minimum of one year experience in land surveying with the ability to operate survey field equipment, but will train the right person with a background in GIS, Wildlife Management, Geology, Engineering, Construction, or related field

· Proficient in using computers, calculator, and math through Trigonometry

· Demonstrated knowledge of principles of survey measurement, staking and marking

· Knowledge of math, geometry and trigonometry

· Proficiency with GPS, robotics, and conventional survey equipment. Leica, Spectra, and Topcon proficiency (Preferred not required)

· Able to learn and use a variety of computer programs

· Must possess effective written and oral communication skills

· Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy

· Ability to work well with, and take coaching and direction from others

· Demonstrated ability to identify sources of measurement errors

· Must be able and willing to travel and work in other cities, including both urban and remote areas

· Attendance, punctuality and reliability are essential requirements

· Must be able to work in inclement weather

· Strong work ethic and team-player attitude

· Ability to perform physical labor (i.e., strenuous walking, and lifting grates/manhole covers, hauling equipment) and physically maneuver around construction sites, including accessing excavations, trenches, structures and other disturbed areas

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Fieldwork involves working outdoors in all types of weather, walking long distances, and standing for extended periods while measurements are taken. While performing these duties, an employee is frequently required to sit; talk; hear; stand; walk; use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.

Availability

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:30a.m. to 3:30p.m., overtime and weekends as required.

Travel

As a part of performing this position’s duties, travel will be required to respective job sites in Central Florida and within the state of Florida.

Pay: $16.00 - $21.43 per hour
