Job Summary

Working under the Director of ESG supervision for ARA, the Sustainability Analyst supports and improves the delivery of business sustainability performance. This role reviews and performs analysis on data and operating performance, with reporting to team members and senior leadership. There are a number of primary responsibilities, utilizing both business and technical skill sets:

  • Provide performance analysis, market intelligence and benchmarking insights and energy forecasting to support the Sustainability team and the business in their decision-making processes.
  • Develop innovative ways to improve the visual communication of sustainability-related data to internal employees and the external market.
  • Develop management tools, templates and databases to become a valued business reporting advisor.
  • Manage environmental and social data capture and reporting, using systems such as Excel, Tableau, other platforms.
  • Manage the sustainability reporting and engage with external groups.
  • Provide support to projects on gathering data metrics and analysis.
  • Assist in the delivery and support of sustainability projects / initiatives.
  • Perform financial modelling around key sustainability metrics.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties


§ Prepare reports / dashboards for operations.

§ Obtain data for allocated projects / assets and capture data and evidence in sustainability systems.

§ Review sustainability reporting and following-up any data gaps with the broader project teams.

§ Design and Prepare the Business Reporting on a monthly basis.

  • Oversee the external sustainability consulting groups.
  • Generate ad-hoc sustainability reports as required by senior management.
  • Evaluate and analyze sustainability data and trends to provide intelligence to the organization.
  • Provide benchmarking and market intelligence information
  • Develop analytical tools that provide enhanced decision-making capability
  • Provide support, troubleshooting and development of enhancements to existing tools.
  • Perform financial modelling around key sustainability metrics including quantitative analysis of long- and short-term impacts to revenue, costs, asset values, insurance etc
  • Work to support, identify and assess future ESG projects
  • Create budgets for specific projects and overall program.

Basic Qualifications


  • Experience in a corporate environmental and/or sustainability related field (with minimum 2 years work experience) with strong technical knowledge of sustainability issues.
  • Experience in data management, data auditing, trending and analysis, and sustainability performance reporting (energy, emissions, water, waste, economic data).
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in software applications such as MS Excel and Energy Star Portfolio Manager for analysis, review and reporting of sustainability data.
  • Ability to develop and implement sustainability performance reporting templates for internal and external use.
  • Experience in delivering initiatives within an organization that has multiple stakeholders
  • Accountability and proven project management skills (time, budget, resources).
  • Drives continuous improvement, identifying ways for managing sustainability more efficiently and effectively.
  • Interpersonal ability, particularly skills in change management and stakeholder engagement will be a benefit.
  • Proven experience managing both internal and external customers.
  • Proven experience using effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills to individuals and/or small groups.
  • LEED AP or GA is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or equivalent experience.

Work Environment

  • Expected work hours: 8:30 to 5:30, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends.
  • Travel: Business trips with overnight stays may be required. Occasionally may need to drive a personal vehicle for business.
  • Work environment and physical demands: General office environment.
