Summary:

The COMET program is an activity of the United States Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4 to establish teams that serve FORSCOM organizations with logistics expertise and logistics training to improve Soldier forces and capabilities in support of the National Security and Defense Strategies and sustainment of unit combat readiness. COMET SMEs perform assessments and training of Army Leaders and Soldiers to provide quality assurance and advice in the areas of maintenance and supply.

Detailed Position Description

Technical Instructors (Army Supply SME) inspect and assess Army Units’ PLL and Shop Stock operations. SMEs’ observe and assess supply processes to ensure requisitions, receipts, issues, stocks, inventories are performed and maintained IAW AR 710-2, DA PAM 710-2-1 and other applicable Army Retail Supply Regulations Command SOPs and Command Supply Discipline Program (CSDP). Assessment includes review of both manual and electronic records. SMEs assess Unit Level personnel’s proficiency using GCSS-A and other Management Information Systems to manage Unit Level Supply operations. Supply SME Technical Instructors teach one or more short courses in the technical trade to include preparation of instructional programs. Training includes assembling materials to be presented and delivering classroom instruction. The Technical Instructor (Army Supply SME) develops approved curriculum effectively utilizing allotted time, maintains proficiency in instructional techniques, incorporates current examples in the teaching process (e.g. develops clarification or real world examples of application related to the subject matter); develops and maintains classroom techniques that reflect professionalism, good discipline and enhance teaching.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical Instructors (Army Supply SME) will:
Perform Command Maintenance Evaluation and Training (COMET) Services in support of FORSCOM Units. The following areas of support will be provided to the customer:
  • Army Supply training courses; understanding Army Supply Regulations and Policies; use of GCSS-Army Unit Supply Modules to include requisitioning, receipt, deficiency identification/reporting, issue, storage, inventory management, turn-in of excess and unserviceable/recoverable items, management of records, local purchase procedures, and support of Unit Readiness Reporting
  • Subject matter expertise in all logistics areas in order to perform Supply/Maintenance, Evaluation and Training at the Battalion level and below. These areas may include: management of supply operations at the Unit level; property management, physical security; Unit movement operations; Care of Supplies in Storage (COSIS); materiel records management; management and maintenance of CL IX and VII items; driver training; and GCSS-A applications associated with supply operations.
  • Subject matter expertise to assist soldiers with conducting Command Inspection Program (CIP) inspections, Command Supply Discipline Program (CSDP) inspections, Command Maintenance Discipline Program (CMDP) inspections, Inspector General (IG) inspections, and any other Command directed inspection.
  • Provide one-on-one Soldier training, collective training, or unit directed training. Onsite assistance may include, but is not limited to, Small Arms and CBRNE maintenance, PLL and Shop Stock Supply management.
  • Be required to travel to CONUS/OCONUS to attend meetings, conferences, training and support to FORSCOM elements located on TRADOC installations based on closest regional proximity of the COMET team.
  • Perform Command Evaluation and Training to include compliance with Command Supply Discipline Program (CSDP), and proficiency with Logistics Information Systems (LIS) and management and maintenance of Class I - IX items.
  • Assist and provide training to Units during official training exercises in conjunction with Unit evaluations; conduct over-the-shoulder training on CSDP shortfalls.
  • Be required to travel to receive training on new systems or programs that are associated with Army logistics and require inclusion in the COMET curriculum.
  • Train military personnel on the new programs and systems as required upon completion training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Technical Instructors (Army Supply SME) must possess subject matter expertise, on-the-job experience, GCSS-A Training and Certification (GTRAC), and a minimum of 12 months teaching experience in the specific course material. The candidate shall be well versed in Army logistics policies and procedures, and have a high degree of technical and management expertise in tactical logistics operations. At a minimum, the candidate shall exhibit a minimum of five years’ experience in the performance and management of Army Supply operations as a Supply Sergeant, Warrant Officer, or Officer embedded in the following Army policies, concepts and functional areas:

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of 5 Years Experience performing as an Army Supply Technician, Supply Sergeant or Officer
  • Must have or be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance
  • Must have prior experience providing instruction on maintenance concepts at Unit Level
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Command Maintenance Discipline
  • Must have experience and be proficient in Logistics Information Systems to include Global Combat Support System – Army (GCSS-A); Army Enterprise Systems Integration Program (AESIP); Standard Army Retail Supply System (SARSS); HAZMAT Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 49; Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT); Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be a US Citizens
  • Must read, write, speak English proficiently
