Job Summary

The Technical Product Owner for Data Platforms is responsible for delivering on the promise of creating next generation data architecture that spans our diverse insurance businesses. This includes development of technical roadmaps that capture our business strategy and use of those to guide our teams and ensure successful delivery of data science solutions, data pipelines, warehouses, reporting and analytics systems and other data specific platforms. As a member of the technology team, you will be responsible for oversight of requirements gathering, tech design and selection, planning, delivery processes and all other activities required to unlock the value stored in our vast array of data sources. You’ll also lead efforts to build AI/ML to power a wide variety of systems that support our brokers, agents, underwriters, and all other personas we represent. Staying ahead of technological innovation is just one aspect of the job. What You'll Do:
  • Engage teams of data scientists, data engineers, infrastructure engineers, security engineers, product managers, underwriters and our executive team to plan, design and drive the delivery of products and features that grow our business, simplify the delivery of our services, and redefine how we engage customers.
  • Work with product management to create and establish roadmaps that encompass our data initiatives.
  • Provide technical and project level leadership for multiple data centric delivery teams.
  • Work with business and technical leads to determine key requirements and guide the design of solutions to satisfy key scalability, security, reuse, and maintainability requirements.
  • Work in an agile, sprint-oriented way to deliver value, engaging the business teams all along the way to ensure alignment. Coordinate the work of internal team members as well as 3rd party consultants, to keep teams aligned to sprint commitments yet also nimble to changes in business priorities as they occur.
  • Prioritize and assist the team in breaking down work into digestible chunks that can be successfully completed within the sprint.
  • Manage delivery according to agile metrics and KPIs to gauge the success of each agile delivery team. Make adjustments, clarify objectives, and create improvement plans to course correct and ensure successful delivery.
  • Guide all life cycle activities including design, development, testing and launch.
  • Establish best practices and make sure they are communicated across the team - from both engineering and project perspectives.
  • Ensure proper automation is in place to simplify and ensure speed and quality of assets, code, and artifacts from development to production.
  • Participate and lead design and code reviews, product demos, stakeholder meetings and prioritization of features.

What You'll Need:
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology (or commensurate experience in data structures/algorithms/distributed systems)
  • Technical, data centered skillset with at least 10 years’ experience leading data initiatives
  • Strong planning and organizational skills. This includes the ability to broadly communicate up and across the organization in a variety of written and verbal formats
  • Experience with SQL Tuning, Python, relational and/or NoSQL databases, and ability to leverage those when needed
  • Deep understanding of database schema design, data architectures, engineering practices, open-source frameworks
  • Experience implementing analytics, reporting and dashboarding tools
  • Strong debugging, optimization, tuning and problem-solving skills

Bonus points if you have:
  • Prior experience with cloud-based data warehousing technologies like Redshift or Snowflake
  • Experience delivering data and AI/ML pipelines
  • Understanding of AWS or other cloud architecture
  • Experience implementing Power BI or Quicksight
  • Prior experience with real-time data streaming architectures
  • Prior experience in insurance, financial services, or related field
