Description:
The Technical Services Manager leads a team of Librarians and Specialists managing all aspects of library technical services for the firm. Primary responsibilities include overseeing database access and credentialing, library invoice processing, cataloging needs, electronic resource information management, as well as team knowledge management. This role requires candidates to have 2 years of management or leadership experience, as well as 10 years of relevant legal, corporate, or industry technical services experience supporting library and research operations as well as electronic resource management. Successful candidates must exercise leadership and technical competency as well as independent judgment. Candidates must also demonstrate initiative and vision, with the ability to lead a collaborative team on departmental projects geared toward strategic organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Supervise Technical Services team as part of the larger Research Services team
  • Manage day-to-day operations of Technical Services team
  • Coordinate weekly meetings to discuss workload and technical issues, new programs, work schedules, job demands, customer service issues, as well as attorney needs
  • Support and advocate for Technical Services team, including directing performance improvements and team development
  • Work as part of the Research Services team to provide technical and administrative support for daily requests; particularly time-sensitive issues such as loss of access to databases, database errors, publication requests, and/or credential and access requests.
  • Assist with review and management of annual renewals to publications and subscriptions
  • Assist Digital Solutions Manager with CORAL [firm open-source electronic resource management (ERM) solution],ensuring currency of resource and vendor information
  • Manage cataloging needs, ensuring currency of MARC records, routing lists, and desk copy information in KOHA open-source library system
  • Manage database user lists to ensure currency for access and billing purposes, running usage reports and liaising with vendor partners as needed
  • Manage processing and coding of invoices, working with the Technical Services team to answer any questions and ensure invoices are processed in a timely, consistent manner
  • Liaise with Accounts Payable team to streamline invoicing and payment process for all library accounts
  • Assist with maintaining team training material including regular updates to the Technical Services Training Manual
  • Assist with internal data analysis, developing regular reports on catalog activity
  • Review existing team policies, solicit feedback, and implement improvements
  • Coordinate credentialing needs as part of new hire onboarding
  • Work as part of the Research Services Leadership team strategizing and implementing best practices, processes, priorities and goals
  • Manage firm copyright compliance
  • Assist Research Services Operations Senior Manager with administrative needs and project management as needed
  • Assist with monthly reporting of Research Services budget, team billing and collection statistics, and other team statistics as needed
  • Special projects and additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Legal Information and Resource Management
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant legal, corporate, or industry technical services experience supporting library and research operations as well as electronic resource management.
  • Experience managing the acquisitions workflow for electronic subscriptions as well as print material
  • Experience appraising, implementing, and/or maintaining acquisition technologies and systems
  • Familiarity with copyright compliance, including evaluating vendor contracts and licenses to ensure compliance with all negotiated terms
  • Expertise with cataloguing, including knowledge of copy and original cataloguing
  • Experience with legal knowledge management, especially related to the development of consistent metadata in library catalogues
  • Process-oriented, with experience establishing, reviewing, and maintaining policies for collection retention and withdrawal of materials
  • Experience managing invoice processing in partnership with Accounts Payable team
  • Experience working with APIs and data visualization
  • Fundamental understanding of legal systems and concepts, with an awareness of the legal industry and current trends

  • Minimum of 2 years management or leadership experience preferred, as demonstrated through leadership or project management roles or outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, plan efficient processes, and implement best practices
  • Experience managing resources to successfully complete project objectives within specified deadlines
  • Understanding of and demonstrated engagement in supervisory best practices including fostering leadership qualities and teamwork, as well as clearly communicating expectations and goals
  • Experience with benchmarking and data analysis, with a commitment to using data actionably in scoping opportunities and identifying solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, develop, and advocate for all Technical Services team members

Minimum Education:
  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited school or equivalent degree
  • Bachelor's Degree with more than 15 years of relevant experience may be substituted in exceptional circumstances
This position may be filled in New York City, Colorado, or California. In accordance with the New York City Human Rights Law, the Colorado Equal Pay Act, and the California Pay Transparency Law, the pay range for this position in New York City is $101,200-$151,800/year, in Colorado is $88,600-$132,800/year, and in California is $97,000 - $158,200/year. These ranges are specific to these three locations and may not be applicable to other locations. An individual's actual compensation will depend on the individual's qualifications and experience.
