Position Title: Technical Superintendent
Reports To: Technical Director
Schedule: 0800 – 1700 Monday through Friday and additional as required
Location: Fort Lauderdale
Positions Supervised: Ship staff and contractors as required
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering and/or Naval Architecture
Experience: 15 years of combined experience sailing as Licensed Engineering Officer and working in a shoreside technical role. Shipyard experience will be accepted in lieu of shipboard experience.
Languages: English
Skills/Software: Working experience with Excel, Word and Outlook
Traits: Ability to travel as necessary for projects, ability to work well with others, self-starter, proactive, flexible with work schedule, well organized
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Maritime Academy
Licenses/Certifications: USCG, Unlimited third Engineer’s license or greater
Experience: Past dry-dock or major repair supervisory experience

Major Responsibilities:
  • Ensure vessels are operated in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner, ensuring compliance with Class and Statutory and Company regulations while protecting asset value
  • Provide day to day Technical support and guidance to assigned vessels
  • Monitor vessel performance and ensure follow up action
  • Management of vessel Repair & Maintenance budgets and operating expenditure in coordination with the relevant Marine Superintendents and Operations teams
  • Responsible for the overall management of repair and maintenance for assigned vessels including routine voyage repairs, regulatory surveys, dry docking shipyard events, emergencies, casualties and modifications.
  • Promotes a professional relationship with the officers and crew. Set clear goals and expectations and coach and develop Chief Engineers in line with Competence and Performance Management objectives. Participate in interviews and make recommendations regarding new-hires and promotions.
  • Act as the main contact for Technical coordination for assigned vessels
  • Carry out regular vessel visits to confirm condition and compliance with Seabulk Operating Standards and provide Vessel Condition reports
  • Monitor and assure maintenance software (NS) is utilized properly, verifying repairs and maintenance are properly reported and standard jobs are followed
  • Support company emergency response by participating in the company Incident command team as needed
  • Remain abreast of, and ensure compliance with, applicable flag state and class standards, international regulations, and audit results
  • Focal point for ports states, Class, terminals, USCG, etc.
  • Assist and participate on Incident investigations
  • Manage technical files including service reports, machinery history and regulatory required documentation
  • Travel in support of ship operations; convenes safety meetings during vessel visits, addressing issues important to management
  • Perform such other tasks, duties and responsibilities as may be required or directed by the SR/ Technical Superintendent
Requirements (Knowledge, Skill and Abilities):

  • Demonstrates teamwork, interpersonal and communications skills
  • Education and experience as a marine engineer
  • Knowledge of technical operations for the vessel types managed
  • Knowledge of propulsion plant onboard vessels managed
  • Ability to drive long distances (up to 5 hours) and/or travel by air to various US and foreign ports often requiring overnight stays
  • Ability to board vessels in port (requires using a gangway with a grade of 30-60 degrees)
  • Ability to climb ladders and navigate over uneven surfaces during vessel visits
  • Ability to board vessels at anchor (climb a Jacob’s ladder from a water taxi)
  • Ability to enter and inspect confined spaces
  • Willingness to remain accessible for communication and consultation on an around the clock basis and work unusual hours , including nights and weekends as required
  • This position requires an annual physical with a company appointed 3rd party facility
