Position: Tech Writer (Hygine/Safety/Safety Compliance)

Candidate Location: Remote

Hours: Full Time; Monday - Friday (8 hours per day)

Starting Pay: $26.28/hour (5 month contract, ending June 2023)

Job Summary: IBEX IT Business Experts is looking for an experienced Technical Writer to support the efforts of The Occupational Health and Safety Office (OHSO) to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for the CDC workforce through employee safety, industrial hygiene, and safety, and safety compliance. The Industrial Hygiene and Safety Branch Team oversees hazard and job risk assessment and mitigation for CDC and oversees all agency OSHA-required programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to work in the United States.
  • A Bachelor's degree and/or one to three years of proven work experience as a Technical writer-editor

Required Experience:

  • (3) Three years or more of related experience. Proficiency in advanced word processing features and desktop publishing software.
  • Experience with CORITY or a similar workers’ safety system (e.g., DOEHRS, etc.) is preferred.

Brief Overview of Duties:

  • Review program documents to compose technical information for multiple Safety and Industrial Hygiene related projects
  • Review Cority data to develop reports based on information from the Industrial Hygiene and Safety suites
  • Review risk assessments to ensure the use of proper technical terminology
  • Drafting and editing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed. (E.g., documenting how to create reports based on input from the staff.), Make sure instructions are clear and current
  • Translate technical safety-related information from SOPs and existing User Guides into clear, readable documents, fact sheets, or guides to be used by technical and non-technical personnel
  • Provide written documentation in presentation-ready quality output using advanced word processing or desktop publishing software. All development or remediation of the existing documentation is performed in accordance with section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Plain Language Act, where applicable, assuring all web pages and applications are accessible as mandated by the federal government
  • Dcument all activities on the weekly status report
  • Utilizing editorial expertise to develop briefing materials, summary documents, and reports as needed for senior leadership

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. All personnel shall be attired in business casual clothing for daily work. Attire worn should always ensure employees’ safety from working conditions (long pants, appropriate shirts, and closed-toe shoes as required): on occasion, staff may be required to wear a business dress for certain activities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear.
