  • Title: Technology Learning Specialist
  • Location: Program Development @ Central Library (may include travel to other branch locations)
  • Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week
  • Schedule: May vary; but will include day, evening, and frequent weekend hours, including Sundays (weekend hours are part of the normal scheduled work week)
  • Starting Hourly Rate: $18.90
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

A successful candidate will…

  • Be available to work day, evening, and weekend hours as scheduled
  • Three years of training past high school or equivalency with one year of relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Advanced ability level with Microsoft Office, Google Suite products, and general computer software and web browsing skills
  • Specialized training in computer or technology skills such as media creation and editing, computer technician skills, coding, or similar advanced technical skills is a plus.
  • Customer service and cultural competency skills
  • Have previous experience working training adults and group presentation is a plus
  • Have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record; be willing to travel to various Library branch locations throughout Indianapolis.

What does the job look like?

  • Develops and presents digital literacy programs. Utilizing equity frameworks to ensure programs are intentional about addressing areas of marginalization. Creates content for program packets and promo flyers. Utilizes participant feedback and outcomes to evaluate program.
  • Provides basic technical support for public PCs, printing, scanning, or using other equipment, and common consumer technology for accessing library resources. Demonstrates sound customer service and responds to patron inquiries in an approachable and patient manner.
  • Coordinates with branch staff and community partners to plan and schedule digital inclusion programming. Promotes programs by utilizing community networking.
  • Evaluate patron’s digital inclusion needs in the areas of digital literacy and digital divide (affordable internet and devices) referring them to appropriate resources to address their needs.
  • Provides support for library lendable tech including Hotspots and Chromebooks. Troubleshoot and fix common issues, update and configure device settings, and develop training and procedures for lending.
  • Provides basic support to patrons borrowing or accessing library digital materials, online catalog, or digital literacy training using personal devices, including laptops, smartphones, e-readers, tablets, and chromebooks.
  • Selects suitable software and hardware tools; research new tools and determines incorporation method and program models to share with other public service staff.
  • Evaluates digital inclusion activities. Encourages patrons to complete program surveys and enters statistics into program database and Desk Tracker. • Maintains, updates, troubleshoots, and repairs all technology not directly supported by IT, including Chromebooks, tablets, maker technology, 3D printers, and projectors.
  • Learns and demonstrates proficiency with all software included on supported public and program devices including Microsoft Office, Google Suites, editing software (images, audio, and video), web browsers, and remote assistance software.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in working with multiple assignments and priorities.
  • Assists patrons with questions regarding library policies and services, using good and appropriate judgement. Analyzes and makes decision regarding patron issues, including handling security situations, referring to person-in-charge or security, when appropriate.
  • Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position.
  • Able to cope with daily job-related stress.
