Summary of Work

As a Temporary Equipment Operator, your main duty will be operating heavy equipment to perform required maintenance duties such as; basic snow and ice control and removal. You will also perform highway, roadway, and structure maintenance as needed. You will complete highway maintenance duties, which include assisting in installing, repairing, and maintaining highway signs and guardrails. To complete these tasks and others assigned you will operate power tools and other equipment to perform maintenance duties. You will also keep the roadways clear of any hazards; this includes litter, waste, debris, garbage, and carcass.

You will complete building and ground maintenance duties, and general routine maintenance of the roadway and radio system equipment. You will also perform minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Maintain necessary paperwork, including time records, activity reporting, daily diary, road reports, etc. You will receive training and perform construction project duties under close supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, you must have a valid North Dakota Class A drivers license with air brakes, a cargo tanker endorsement; and two years of relevant experience. Preference will be given to those who have snow plow experience.

This position requires reporting to work within 30 minutes, after hours, on weekends, and holidays during emergency events.

  • If unable to find a candidate with preferred experience, the NDDOT will consider filling this position as an Equipment Operator I, which requires a valid North Dakota Class B drivers license with air brakes and a cargo tanker endorsement by the first day of work. Requires reporting to work within 30 minutes, after hours, on weekends, and holidays during emergency events.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test, medical screening, reference check, and driving records check with current and previous employers within the past three years.
