SADD works to empower, engage, mobilize, and change students and adult allies on the issues of mobility safety, substance use, mental health, and leadership development. We’re trying to change the world (really) through a peer-to-peer model of school and community-based chapters. In Tennessee, we’re looking for the next self-motivated go-getter, who faces hard work with a “can-do” attitude. This exempt, full-time team member will be our representative leader in the state of Tennessee.

SADD has a network of dedicated professionals who serve as State Coordinators, with SADD chapters spanning all 50 states and internationally. This full-time position based in Tennessee develops and oversees the vibrant network of SADD chapters & affiliates across the state.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Thinking: You will be required to implement a strategy that increases the effectiveness and engagement of peer-to-peer student leaders at the local, state, and national level. Creativity in engaging new partners and students will be critical, specifically considering the diversity of the populations served throughout Tennessee State and the variety of health and safety concerns.
  • Program execution: Conducting meetings (virtually and in-person), leading chapter training event, presenting safety programming in schools and conferences, working tabling events, and increasing the presence of SADD in a variety of coalition settings will be key. This position will execute mobility safety campaigns and implement strategies that increase reach, evaluation measurement, and data-driven results (examples of campaigns include alcohol/marijuana-impaired driving prevention, seat belt safety, distracted driving awareness, and more).


  • Grant management: This work includes serving as the lead on grants that speak to the mission of the organization. You will oversee the daily workings of the statewide grants, including monitoring budgetary spending/needs, achieving set goals, recording data, completing necessary reports, and ensuring that SADD chapters and partners remain engaged.
  • Flexibility: Working from your remote/home office, you’ll need to be a self-starter, able to problem-solve. You will have the freedom to develop your own schedule but are expected to be our in the communities/on the road-building partnerships and accomplish the goals outlined in the grant as needed.
  • Pragmatism: You can and should work with a variety of stakeholders (teens, caring adutls, community members, government agencies, and more) and seize the opportunity to build meaningful connections that advance the strategic goals of the organization through program execution. You’ll need to be able to pivot rejection when partners are difficult to contact or collaborate. Developing new partnerships that have not been explored or engage new prevention spaces is welcomed and encouraged.
  • Having fun: Working with our SADD students is a blast! You will help to provide technical support & training to students, educators, law enforcement, and other prevention partners in the state, and feel great about being a leader in developing and making change in the young folks we work with every day. This is life-saving work, and you will have an entire network of students, advisors, and SADD team members across the country to help you make the biggest impact possible.

The applicant will work from their home office but must reside within the state of Tennessee. Frequent travel is expected but flexible. Proven experience in Prevention, Law Enforcement, Mobility Safety, Community Health, or Mental Health programming is a plus but not required. This position will report to the Director of Field Engagement or their designee. A successful applicant will possess a BA or BS degree with 3-5 years of experience in the field of education, prevention, youth advocacy, substance abuse, program development, or another relevant field. Strong writing and organizational skills are a must, as well as effective interpersonal communication and presentation skills. Proficiency with software such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other tools is expected. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. No phone calls accepted.
