Basic Function:
Perform as a rocket motor test lead with an understanding of disciplined system engineering processes as well as technical domain knowledge in the Aerospace and Defense industry. This position requires direct interfacing with the Chief Systems Engineers, Program Managers, and Principal Engineers to receive tasking and draw upon their expertise. This position requires effective communications and interfacing with engineering staff across a program to accomplish Systems and Test Engineering assignments and support others in accomplishing their engineering assignments.
Responsibilities:
This job requires the candidate to perform control system engineering, system analyses, and system integration tasks for risk reduction and research and development test activities with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include:
· Develop and lead test planning and test procedure efforts
· Act as control system engineer for various test types, but mostly controllable solid rocket motor test configurations
· Interface with system design and analysis functions to develop test and test instrumentation requirements
· Decompose test plan requirements to identify detailed instrumentation and test facility requirements
· Plans and directs test facility and test equipment/avionics needs, and procurement activities to assure test facility/equipment readiness
· Generate specifications and statements of work for avionics vendors, plan integration tasks
· Perform integration of avionics subsystems with test equipment using various communication protocols including analog and serial (RS-422/485 and CAN)
· Perform integration, calibration, and validation of instrumentation for rocket motor static testing
· Perform closed loop control system analysis and verification
· Generate, modify, validate, verify, and troubleshoot real-time test software on a MATLAB/Simulink based platform
· Perform Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) testing of integrated avionics systems
· Analyze and develop pre-test predictions related to ballistic performance and/or control system of unit under test
· Report article status and provide detailed reports
· Support the preparation of test engineering materials for internal and external program milestone reviews
· Identify all risks, issues, and concerns and develop mitigation and closure plans
· Work closely with program management, chief engineers, and principal engineers to appropriately identify and manage challenging issues
· Other related job duties, as assigned
Experience:
Required: Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in systems and test engineering process for aerospace, defense, or propulsion system development including system qualification documentation.
Preferred: Current DoD Secret Security Clearance
Education:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in the field of Aerospace/Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent
Preferred: Master’s or PhD in the field of Aerospace/Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent
Skills:
Required:
· Proven ability to successfully operate in a highly collaborative team environment
· Experienced in hardware and software configuration and document management
· Proficient in C, MATLAB, and Simulink programming
· Working knowledge of rocket motor propulsion system integration and testing
· Experience with pressure transducers, temperature measurements, accelerators, and force measurement
· Experience with DC brushless motors
· Experience with serial communication protocols
· Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced small business environment
· Possess excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on verbal and written communication
· Willingness to seek-out and assume increasing responsibilities as workload changes
· Working knowledge of DOD project designs including TMRR, EMD, and production transition
· Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Preferred:
· Knowledge of rocket propulsion ballistics
· Working knowledge of rocket motor propulsion system integration and testing
Other:
· Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time.
· Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
