Transition from School to Work (TSW) Technician


EMPLOYMENT TERMS
: 1.0 FTE / 9-month contract

GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under supervision of a certified staff member, aid in providing a positive working relationship with students, faculty, and staff to assure successful operation of a school; assist in maintaining a stimulating working environment for students.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Establish a public relations and marketing scheme that educates administrators, teachers, parents, and students to the TSW Program.
  • Identify needs for school and community-base instructional programs in vocational, independent living, and personal/social content areas that compliment the student’s job training goals.
  • Identify and analyze local community job sites to develop a variety of appropriate training options for participating students.
  • Participate in activities related to the recruitment of potential TSW students.
  • Must possess the ability to deal effectively with matters of confidentiality


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • First Aid Training and CPR Certificate.
  • Must be able to push, pull or life up to 50 pounds
  • Must possess basic math, language/reading, and writing abilities
  • Must posses a warmth and understanding for special needs students
  • One to Three years’ experience in School District setting, preferred.


OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:

Medium risk - Work is routinely performed both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time. Requires standing in inclement weather including summer heat.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish a public relations and marketing scheme that educates administrators, teachers, parents, and students to the TSW Program.
  • Coordinate activities associated with the recruitment and identification of potential TSW Students.
  • Collaborate with the TSW Team on procedures necessary for determining student eligibility.
  • Assist the TSW Team and students in initial transition planning for eligible students.
  • Orchestrate transition planning with students, TSW Staff, parents, school district personnel, related support services, and appropriate adult services.
  • Identify needs for school and community-based instructional programs in vocational, independent living, and personal/social content areas that complement the student’s job training goals.
  • Identify and analyze local community job sites to develop a variety of appropriate training options for participating students.
  • Implement a system for follow-up of any TSW Students/clients that are no longer receiving services through the TSW, or whose file may be closed by Vocational Rehab (VR)
  • Assume responsibility for the marketing and public relations associated with TSW in the community.
  • Network with school and community personnel providing employment and transition services similar to the TSW.
  • Establish procedures that ensure effective case management of TSW students.
  • Implement record-keeping procedures that ensure proper documentation of TSW activities, and that demonstrate collaboration between Vocational Rehab (VR) and the School.
  • Help evaluate the effectiveness of the program from the perspectives of relevant stakeholders, including students, parents, employers, schools, and rehabilitation counselors.
  • Participate in activities related to the recruitment of potential students.
  • Assist the TSW team by gathering Student documents necessary for determining Vocational Rehab (VR) Eligibility of Student applicants.
  • Assist students in acquiring necessary mobility/transportation to keep appointments.
  • Under the supervision of the Coordinator(s), implement a system for disseminating TSW information to potential employers.
  • Analyze work sites and match TSW students with those that are deemed appropriate by the Coordinator and Vocational Rehab (VR) Counselor.
  • Maintains student progress log and parent communication log
  • Must possess the ability to deal effectively with matters of confidentiality
  • Must use own initiative and judgement in performing job
  • Ability to communicate and work well with staff, students, and parents
  • Assists in the planning and participation of program activities and field trips
  • Attends student IEP meetings and parent conferences, as requested by the Exceptional Student Services Director
  • Participates in continuing education, workshops, in-services, etc., to maintain proficient technical skills and continued professional growth.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:

The evaluation is done by the Exceptional Student Services Director with input from site principals, in accordance with provisions specified in governing board policy.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The Transition from School to Work (TSW) Technician reports directly to the Exceptional Student Services Director.
