Position Title: Transporter

Location: Queens- Part Time (Morning/ Afternoon Shifts)

Gateway Counseling Center is hosting open calls for open Transporter positions within our company. Open calls allow applicants to come in and be seen for an on-the-spot interview for the positions listed in this posting. Applicants are reminded to bring a copy of their updated resume and driver's abstract to the location in which they wish to apply. Gateway supports 3 locations and will be hosting open calls on the following dates, times, and locations:

  • For Queens Transporter positions, Interviews will be held from 10 am to 12pm at our Queens Facility located at 175-41 Liberty Avenue, Jamaica, NY 11433. Interviews will be held weekly on Wednesdays from March 1st to 29th.

Position Summary:

Gateway Counseling Center, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit that provides services to adults with developmental disabilities, as well as adults with mental illness. Gateway’s mission is to enhance the lives of others through our program services, which are designed to increase independence and functioning through person-centered and goal-based care. Our programs operate 7-days a week and the agency provides to-and-from transportation to our service recipients, at no cost to them so that services are accessible for those who may benefit from our care.

Gateway is seeking Transporters to join our Transportation Department, who will be assigned to our programs providing services to those with developmental disabilities.

What You’ll Do:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Safely transporting service recipients to and from Gateway programs and their residences, using a company provided vehicle.

· Comfortably transporting individuals/clients to and from Gateway for medical appointments and other appointments, as needed during program hours.

· Contact the caregivers of service recipients with transportation related matters; promote positive caregiver contact by communicating schedules and/or possible delays.

· Pick-up and delivers materials within the agency, when called upon to do so.

· Assist service recipients with wheelchairs or other devices during transport.

· Promotes and maintains the cleanliness and effective functioning of transportation equipment and vehicles provided by the agency.

· Reporting incidences or allegations to the appropriate Supervisor upon discovery; Conduct safety checks and reporting any defects or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate Supervisor.

· Ensures that service recipients sign in and out upon arrival and departure.

· Adheres to driving laws, agency protocols and patient information confidentiality regulations.

· Assists in the coordination of all transportation-related matters, when called upon to do so.

· Utilizes technology provided by the agency to follow transportation routes and other processes as necessary.

· ADA Essential Functions

Requirements:

· Valid New York State Drivers License, required. TLC license, preferred.

· High School Education or equivalent, required.

· Ability to follow trainings related to the service recipient population required. Previous experience working with adults with disabilities preferred.

· Must demonstrate a caring, courteous, and compassionate attitude while working with integrity serving those who may be ill, disabled, and/or emotionally upset.

· Ability to operate large or oversized vehicles or machinery safely and comfortably and in the presence of multiple service recipients during transport. Previous transportation-related experience preferred.

· Ability to work the schedule offered at the time of hire and be reasonably flexible and responsive to changes. Open availability preferred.

· Ability to lift and move heavy objects and/or assist service recipients as well as sitting, bending, turning, stretching, or standing for prolonged periods of time.

· Ability to fulfill agency’s COVID-19 vaccination requirements. Pre-employment candidates may request information on this requirement and exemptions upon completing the job application.

· Fluent in English. Bilingual capabilities preferred.

Salary:
Between $19-22/hour, based on skills and qualifications.
