Position: SSSP Self-Help Outreach Specialist

Department/Division: Student Support Services/Academic Affairs

Salary: $35,000 - $47,000

FLSA Classification: Exempt/Grant funded

Position Duration: Full-time/12 months

Position Schedule: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (Weekends and travel may be required)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Assists the TRIO Director with administrative tasks.

· Monitors and Coordinates activities and services held in the TRIO SSSP Self-Help Outreach Center.

· Manages program participants’ folders, individual profiles, and records to ensure all documentation is retained for USDE compliance.

· Maintains the upkeep of all equipment, supplies, furniture and other in the TRIO SSSP Self-Help Outreach Center.

· Provides counseling for participants in the TRIO SSS Program in the areas of academic advising, academic enhancement, personal and academic development, career planning, computer and other advanced technological services, educational & cultural enrichment activities, financial aid, financial and economic literacy, study groups, testing, and tutoring.

· Visits and maintains communication with off-campus sites to recruit members, assesses the needs of and provides services to program members.

· Assists staff in designing and conducting seminars, workshops, cultural awareness activities, trips,and college visitations to enhance participants' academic, personal, career, and cultural development.

· Works with the Academic Center for Excellence and other appropriate University departments, Faculty and Staff with regards to ensuring appropriate referrals and accommodations for disabled members as needed.

· Coordinates the process of handling accommodations for program participants with disabilities.

· Assists program staff with planning, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic assessments to develop Success Plans of Action (S.P.A.) and Intervention Plans for participants.

· Assists in the recruitment, selection, recommendation, evaluation, and follow-up of participants.

· Provides additional support to our TRIO SSSP disabled population.

· Assists with evaluationof project outcomes and in the development of proposals and reports to the University and U. S. Department of Education.

· Monitors, reviews, and evaluates disabled students’ grade reports, class attendance, academic performance, student progress, counsels and makes appropriate referrals and recommendations.

· Compiles and analyzes test and other data, tracks cohorts for reporting purposes.

· Maintains accurate project records and documentation.

· Serves on appropriate University committees to integrate the project into the institution.

· Other duties as assigned by the TRIO Director.

EDUCATION

· BA/BS Degree Required in a related academic or human services area

· Master's Degree or higher preferred in guidance and counseling, testing, social work or related area.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

· Standard Office Environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Two years of counseling or teaching experience with the economically disadvantaged and/or developmental education a plus.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must.

· This person must demonstrate an interest and experience in working with low-income, first- generation, and disabled students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
