Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in north Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for a full time Upper School Photography Teacher starting in the 2023-2024 school year. Lakeside is seeking an energetic and creative educator to help develop the students' creative minds, healthy bodies, and ethical spirits needed to contribute wisdom, compassion, and leadership to a global society. Responsibilities
Photography is a highly valued and integral component of the student experience and is part of a dynamic Visual and Performing Arts program that includes 2D and 3D visual art, music, and drama. The ideal candidate will join a diverse team of colleagues who are creative, collaborative, and constantly exploring best-practices for inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogy. The current visual art curriculum includes year-long, sequential courses in 2D, 3D, and photography. The ideal candidate will complement the strengths of the department, and utilize their expertise to innovate and develop new approaches.

Specific responsibilities for this position include:

• Teach four sections of photography ranging from introductory to advanced study;

• Collaborate and participate in the work of the Visual Arts department on innovative, inclusive and equitable curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment practices;

• Contribute to the faculty art shows and participate in planning and execution of student exhibitions.

• Manage the photography studio including equipment purchase, inventory and maintenance, loaner contracts, budget, supply ordering and chemical mixing;

• Maintain digital and film equipment including iMacs, printers, digital cameras and film cameras, including a darkroom and related materials;

• Write evaluations of students at each marking period;

• Act as an advisor or co-advisor for 8-10 Upper School students; and

• Participate in the life of the school community which includes assigned duties, departmental and faculty meetings, admissions events, grade-level meetings, and general engagement with student life.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Fine Art or Art Education, Master’s in Fine Arts degree preferred

• Passion for teaching both traditional darkroom and digital photography

• Professional creative practice in photography based media

• Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks

• Creates an inclusive learning environment where all students feel seen, valued and heard

• History of successful collaboration within and across departments in an educational setting.

• Teaching experience in a high school setting or similar comparable experience demonstrating the ability to communicate lessons effectively with this age group

• Experience with both Mac and Windows platforms and Adobe photo software including Lightroom & Photoshop

• Knowledge of the breadth of photography as an art form to support students across a wide range of photographic approaches and ideas

• Satisfactory completion of three criminal background checks

Salary and Benefits
Salary Range: $68,225 - $119,165
