THE POSITION

Washington County's Juvenile Department is actively recruiting to fill variable hour Shelter Aide vacancies within our Harkins House Juvenile Shelter. The Shelter Aide assists in the oversight of routine activities of shelter residents and monitors the safety and security of the juvenile shelter.

Harkins House is a residential facility designed to provide residential care services based on an individual’s needs. Operating on a 24-hours per day, seven days per week schedule, Harkins House serves youth, 12–17 years of age, while providing individual and group skills training, recreational activities, counseling, and the opportunity to participate in a culinary arts program. Youth in the program are pending alleged violations of the law or are on probation.

Variable hour
positions are at-will and hours are limited to 20 hours per week. These positions are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; AND
  • One of the following:
    • Completion of two (2) years of college level education/training; OR
    • Two (2) years of work experience with juveniles or adults in a residential or correctional setting, school setting, or the mentoring/coaching of youth.
Background Investigation
This position requires that you successfully pass a criminal history background investigation.

Department of Motor Vehicle Records (DMV) Requirement

Driving a motorized vehicle is an essential function of this position. Successful applicants must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. To review the Driver's License and Record Policy for Washington County and instructions for submitting appropriate DMV documentation

Selection Process
1. An evaluation of training and experience of submitted application packets will be performed by Human Resources after the job posting closes.

2. Our goal is to schedule oral panel interviews with candidates that successfully passed the HR Evaluation step as soon as possible. Candidates will be contacted based on their selected schedule availability as it relates to the needs of the hiring department at that time.

3. Washington County will perform a DMV records check and criminal background check on the candidate(s) that successfully passes the oral panel interviews and is selected for the position(s).

This is a non-represented position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment. Job share employees are responsible for 50% of the premium. Part-time regular, variable hour, and temporary positions are not eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits.
