Duties Summary

Veterans Services Counselors provide information, counsel, advice and assistance to veterans, their families and dependents and to service members concerning services, assistance or benefits to which they are entitled by law or otherwise; directs and refers them to appropriate agencies for other services, assistance and benefits.

Positions at this level perform a variety of veterans affairs counseling functions ranging from the simple to moderately complex; provides information, counsel, advice, and assistance to veterans, their families and dependents and to servicemen concerning services, assistance or benefits to which they are entitled by law or otherwise; directs and refers them to appropriate agencies for other services, assistance and benefits; and performs other duties as required.


Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

General Experience: One year of progressively responsible professional experience as an employment counselor, rehabilitation specialist, social worker, or other professional work experience assisting others with resolving their vocational, health, social, or other personal problems. Such experience must have provided knowledge of interviewing techniques, community resources and local agencies, groups and organizations providing services or benefits to the community it serves; and must have included providing services to veterans.

Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
