Vice President of Network Operations

Summary: Vice President of Network Operations researches and implements best practices in networking to provide service to fiber customers. Vice President of Network Operations is also responsible for coordinating with vendors to whom network functions are outsourced.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manages day-to-day operations of the network as required to provide quality service.
  • Coordinates with Network Operations Center (NOC) and serves as primary contact with NOC. Responsible for routing of escalations.
  • Manages Direct Internet Access (DIA).
  • Oversees installation and maintenance of routers, hut equipment, and other electronics necessary for network operations.
  • Ensures quality installation and provisioning of customer premise equipment.
  • Assists with compliance to applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Responsible for quality control of all aspects of premise installation and customer experience in the customer’s home.
  • Coordinates scheduling and management of installations and trouble tickets.
  • Maintains contractor and vendor relations as required to ensure success of FTTH deployment and ongoing operations.
  • May assist in review process for vendor contracts.
  • Promotes safe working environment, observes all safety rules, and supports the core values of the company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to fulfill the objectives of the company and this position.

Education/Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Network Administration, Information Technology, or a related field of study.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in a fiber network administrator role.

Preferred:

  • Hands-on experience in client/server environments, network virtualization, telephone and telecom systems, broadband service platforms, network security applications, VoIP experience, and access controls.
  • Prior experience managing outside contractors.

Language Ability:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective presentations (including on complex topics) to board of managers, community groups, vendors, or partners.

Math Ability:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Windows based Office software for word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), presentations (PowerPoint), meetings (Teams), and communications/organization (Outlook).

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), CompTIA Network Certification, Calix Edge Network Training, Microsoft

Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or similar certifications are highly valued.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises employees in reporting divisions. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
