Ness is seeking a Senior VMware Engineer. This role will assist with building out an on-premises failover environment and onboarding of all critical applications. Customer is required by regulators to demonstrate the ability to run all critical systems through internal datacenter (“On-Prem”) and to be able to switch all production functionality running through On-Prem within the predefined SLA. The newly developed application systems take advantage of scalability, ease of provision, and the reduced cost offered by cloud services (AWS) and the cloud offered Multi-Region as Disaster Recovery (DC) strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Determining business needs and evaluating existing network infrastructure and systems.
  • Optimize and configure vCenter virtual switch / virtual distributed switch to allow workloads to communicate with services in existing Datacenters and AWS regions.
  • Integrate SAN and NFS storage systems with VMware Infrastructure.
  • Provision and manage vCenter datastores (VMFS, NFS).
  • Integrate with Active Directory.
  • Ensure the virtual infrastructure is configured according to vendor and organization best practices.
  • Deploy and configure vRealize Operations
  • Creating and updating VMware templates to deploy multiple virtual machines from an automated pipeline.
  • Uploading OVF/OVA and VM Templates to Content Libraries.
  • Deploying virtual machines across multiple VMware vSphere clusters
  • Installing operating systems and service packs, as well as security patches and bug fixes.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving VMware environment issues.
  • Providing technical support and documenting VMware processes.
  • Keeping informed of developments in VMware technologies and products.


Key Skills:

  • Hands-on experience automating VMware configuration; virtual machines, ESXI hosts, vSphere clusters, networking, with Terraform and Ansible is necessary.
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools and principles provisioning virtual machines on VMware infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with deployment and configuration of VMware solutions; vSphere, vCenter, vRealize Operations.
  • Experience in on-premises data center operations management.
  • Experience with Cloudian (Object Storage) solution for on-premises.
  • Hands on experience migrating VMware workloads between datacenters.
  • Hands-on experience backing up and restoring VMware virtual machines.
  • One or more VMware certifications:
    • VMware Certified Professional (VCP):
      • Data Center Virtualization (preferred)
      • Cloud Management and Automation
    • VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP):
      • Data Center Virtualization Deploy (preferred)
      • Data Center Virtualization Design
      • Cloud Management and Automation Deploy (preferred)
      • Cloud Management and Automation Design
    • A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience designing and managing VMware infrastructure.
    • Proficiency in coding languages; Powershell, PowerCLI, Shell Scripting, and Python.
    • Experience implementing SAN and NFS storage solutions with VMware.
    • Availability to resolve urgent VMware environment problems.
    • Strong understanding of Linux / Windows operating systems.
    • Integration experience with patch management tools like Satellite.
    • Familiar with fundamental network concepts (VLANs, Layer2, Layer3, DNS, Firewalls).
    • Hands-on experience integrating VMware infrastructure with Cisco ACI.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
    • Exceptional analytical and technical aptitude.
    • Great organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
