We are seeking a dynamic Volunteer Coordinator to join our Volunteer Services department at Rush University Medical Center!



This is a Full-Time position
80 hours every two weeks, benefit-eligible
Day Shift: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Monday to Friday

Position Highlights:
Assists in the designs, plans and directs volunteer program to augment the services of the regular staff. Manages the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, orientations, training, and scheduling of volunteer workers. Leads and directs the work of others. Assists in the coordination and management of the volunteer services program, comprised of over 1,000 volunteers. Responsible for and oversight of all special volunteer program. Responsible for staff training and in the absence of the Director assumes defined management responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities:

Manages volunteer educational programming; develops and/or conducts the following programs:
Recruitment, Screening and Orientation for all new volunteers.
Information in-service, regulatory required testing and educational programs for volunteers.
Primary responsibility for the interviewing and initial processing of new volunteers.
Conducts initial screening interview with new volunteers.
Assigns to appropriate assignment area and /or refers for specialty interviewing.
Performs all processing procedures for new volunteers.

Volunteer Services liaison for designated hospitals/divisions.
Responsible for program development and coordination.
Responsible for volunteer processing and training.
Responsible for training appropriate staff as to use of volunteers.

Volunteer Processing
Supervises, evaluates and trains volunteers.
Manages required volunteer management system recordkeeping for volunteer processing including new and terminating volunteers.
Counsels volunteers as needed.

Coordinates and maintains the following special programs:
Medical Center Tour Program - schools only
Diversional Activities Craft Program
Winnetka Junior Board Program
High School Programs
Cuddler Program
PACE Program

Other duties as assigned
Manages necessary departmental details for special functions including Volunteer Appreciation Day
Participates in Medical Center committees and professional organizations.
Prepares required reports.
Provides coverage for clerical coordinator and director as needed.

Has an active role as HICS - Emergency Management Non-Clinical Personnel Staging Area
In the absence of the director have staff supervisory responsibilities not only to volunteer services

Position Qualifications Include:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
Five or more years of experience working with people, e.g., orientation, training and supervision using volunteer management system (ie. Volgistics)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; computer skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
Flexible and adaptable personality with effective time and stress management skills.
Ability to relate to persons of all ages and diverse background, skills and abilities; knowledge and understanding of the special needs of patients and their families.
A demonstrated commitment to volunteerism and customer service.
Ability to act independently using good judgement in making decision pertaining to needs of families and volunteers.
Willingness to be flexible in scheduling.
Excellent organizational and coordinating skills.
