Transylvania University Lexington, KY 40508

Transylvania University, a private liberal arts college, seeks an experienced, collaborative, and strategic leader to serve as its next Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA). Building on the University’s long institutional history, a reputation for academic excellence, and a strong sense of community on campus, the next Vice President will help lead Transylvania into a new era of success and distinction.

Located in the heart of downtown Lexington, Kentucky, Transylvania University features a personalized approach to undergraduate education through 46 liberal arts majors. Founded in 1780, it is the 16th oldest institution of higher learning in the country with approximately 1,000 students. Transylvania has a deep commitment to the liberal arts and has been on the move with new facilities, an increasingly diverse student body, and recognized distinction in student outcomes including notably high rates of acceptance to professional schools.

Reporting to the President, the VPFA is responsible for the University’s Administration and Finance Division which includes Budget & Financial Planning, the Controller’s Office, Capital Planning & Construction, Emergency Management, Human Resources, Public Safety, and Auxiliary Services. The VPFA is Transylvania’s chief financial officer and oversees an annual operating budget of $42 million. They will also work closely with the Board of Trustees, serving as the main liaison to the Finance, Infrastructure (buildings and grounds), and Investment Management committees, the last of which stewards the University’s $242 million endowment.

The VPFA will work with the President and his Cabinet as well as with faculty, staff, students, and regional leaders to build on the strengths of the University and honor the institution’s long history while preparing Transylvania for a future that embraces innovation. The Vice President is expected to be a visible and highly energetic leader on campus who will ensure that Transylvania enhances its academic distinction, meets its enrollment goals, diversifies its ranks, and preserves the passion and strong sense of community that has fueled the University’s evolution. The ideal candidate will be a strong financial and administrative leader with experience in strategic planning and facilities management, who can provide clear fiscal and operational guidance as Transylvania approaches its 250th year.
