Job Description:

The Vice President of Fleet Maintenance will provide leadership and management to the organization and his/her functional group. They will develop and deliver strategic planning and implementation to create a first-in-class Fleet Maintenance operation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs, and maintains Fleet Maintenance initiatives across the organization, and develops policies, procedures, and communication to support those initiatives.
  • Provides strategic leadership and direction on comprehensive fleet maintenance policies, programs, tools, and systems for approximately 50 locations in North America.
  • Drives continuous improvement of safety, reliability, and efficiency standards for a fleet of approximately 5,000 vehicles.
  • Manages contracts and subcontracting services for multiple vendors across multiple states.
  • Responsible for the strategic planning, allocation, and distribution of assets across the business centers based on operational needs of each operating area.
  • Oversee overall financial management, planning, systems, and controls for Fleet Maintenance.
  • Collaborate on the capital investment related to fleet and report metrics and allocation to senior leadership and executives on a regular basis.
  • Identifies strategies to deliver year-over-year cost improvements in direct and indirect materials, and capital expenditures.
  • Ensures effective planning and management of the department budget, approves expenditures within prescribed limits, develops recommendations to address unplanned financial pressures, and advocates for additional resources to meet increased or unplanned program responsibilities.
  • Develops and executes strategic business plans with vendors, develops negotiating strategies, and delivers superior cost savings to the organization.
  • Will work closely with exterior vendors on technical issues, new designs, field-internal change-over and recalls, including all major original equipment manufacturers.
  • Assist management in Electric Vehicle and Autonomous Vehicle deployment with developing strategies, equipment specifications, identification of suppliers, and applications.
  • Liaison with federal and state governmental agencies to address business needs as set forth by organization, including EPA, DOT, Homeland Security, and congressional/representative interactions, as well as represent organization and take an active role in various local, state and federal governmental affairs including committees and sub committees of medium, heavy duty, bus related topics.

Skills Required and Physical Demands:

  • Multiple years’ experience in transportation
  • Experience with compliance including local applicable DOT compliance for medium to heavy vehicles
  • Prefer ASE Certification as a Master Automotive Technician and/or a Master Bus Technician
  • Microsoft Office knowledge with robust experience in Excel
  • Strong electronic filing, documentation tracking and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and consistent formatting.
  • Self-Motivated, problem solver
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Work experience with mechanical background and aptitude
  • Additional skills and physical demands may apply
  • 25% Domestic Travel Required to visit field locations

Education and Qualifications:

Hard Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business Management, Finance, Logistics, and/or Transportation.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in fleet management, transportation demand management, customer service, or hospitality
