The Job

The San Bernardino County Fire Department is recruiting to fill Warehouse Courier* positions. These positions are responsible for picking up and delivering supplies and mail between the main office and warehouse in San Bernardino and a variety of stations in assigned divisions. Performance of duties requires lifting heavy equipment into and out of box trucks and large pick-up trucks, as well as driving trucks to various stations, such as Needles, Parker, Trona, or Ontario, and all stops in-between. These positions are responsible for operating the computer, phone, and copiers to determine and requisition needed supplies; requisitioning and collecting requested supplies from the warehouse; and accounting for delivery of supplies and mail to proper stations. In addition to related office tasks, these positions perform related tasks necessary for the efficient operation of the warehouse in support of the outlying stations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

1) Applicant must successfully pass a background check and medical exam prior to appointment.
2) Travel throughout the County is required. A valid CA Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be provided at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
3) Requires driving a box truck or large pick-up truck throughout the County.
4) Travel includes mountains and high/low deserts, as well as various weather conditions (sun, rain, snow, inclement weather, etc.).
5) Requires lifting heavy equipment and boxes weighing up to 100 pounds into and out of trucks without the assistance of lifting devices (e.g., 75 lb structure hoses or canopies, 50 pound generators, fans, or ice chests, etc.).

NOTE: A current DMV printout will be required at the interview.

Minimum Requirements

License: Possession of a current CA Class C (or higher) driver license.

-AND-

Experience: Must meet one of the following Options:

Option A: Six (6) months (full-time equivalent) experience as a courier for mail and supply delivery and pick-up; experience must include using computer programs.

Option B: Six (6) months (full-time equivalent) warehouse experience, which includes using computer programs to receive, store, issue, and inventory supplies and materials.

Option C: Twelve (12) semester (15 quarter) units of completed office- and business-related college coursework.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess exemplary driving skills, excellent computer skills using MS Word and Excel, and varied customer service experience, including inventory systems and ordering/receiving supplies.
