GENERAL FUNCTION: The Wellness/Group Ex Director is responsible for the development, organization and implementation of all health and wellness programs. This includes, but is not limited to group ex classes, personal training services, active older adult programs, equipment orientation, youth, and teen and family health/wellbeing activities. This position may involve early morning, evening and weekend responsibilities. This job is performed to standard when all work is completed accurately and on time, with minimal supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor degree in Exercise Science or related field, preferred
• Requires a minimum of 2 years’ experience or proof of skills in scheduling, staffing, finances, and budgeting in a fitness center setting
• Knowledge of group exercise classes
• Requires current CPR, AED and Basic First Aid certifications
• National Personal Training certification such as ACSM, ACE, and CSCS preferred
• Requires criminal background clearance, child abuse clearance, and FBI clearance
• Effective Communication; written, oral and through presentations
• Must have strong collaborative work ethic
• Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervises and monitors the day-to-day activities of the Wellness and Group Ex Department areas which include: Group fitness class and instructors, fitness testing, fitness and wellness programming, and rehabilitation areas
• Supervises the wellness Coordinator who is responsible for the day to day activities and staff supervision.
• Hire, train, supervisor and monitor wellness center staff and group exercise instructors. Prepare staff schedules and ensure wellness center is fully staffed at all times
• Oversee group exercise schedule and make necessary changes to reflect budget
• Conduct staff meetings, in-service trainings and perform all supervisory functions, including but not limited to staffing requirements, employment procedures and implementation, and evaluations under the direction of Branch Executive
• Assure that proper records, trainings, and certifications are maintained on staff, facilities, and the like as required for the organization, Health Department/Governmental agency regulations and guidelines.
• Prepares and is accountable for the Branch Wellness, and group exercise annual budgets, as required per Branch
• Ability to process, understand and respond appropriately to emergency situations
• Maintain quality service by following organization standards
• Maintain facilities and equipment in safe working order
• Coordinates, with the Marketing and Financial Development Director, a regular planned public relations and marketing plan for the Wellness Department
• Develop information for brochures, publications, news releases and newsletters to promote activities and programs effectively throughout the community
• Serve as Director on Duty as required
• Assist with Association Annual Gift fund raising including coordination, leadership, attainment of goals, recruiting volunteers and staff with full knowledge of YMCA programs, values and services provided to the community
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Perform any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the North Penn YMCA

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $43,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
