Lexington Young Life is looking for an experienced staff person to join our staff team of four full-time and two part-time staff. Our area has seven middle school and seven high school clubs, Young Life College, 60 volunteers, and a thriving outreach and leadership training program at the University of Kentucky. Lexington Young Life has more than 40 years of history in the community with a strong base of adults supporting our work.

Responsibilities:

Ministry

  • Student outreach and discipleship.
  • Under the leadership of the college director, recruit, develop and empower college-aged students to carry on the work of the ministry in a way that is unique to their campus yet consistent with the mission and values of Young Life.
  • Assist in developing a student leadership team that creates opportunities for college-aged individuals to discover Jesus, build community and live out their faith in service.
  • Participate in creatively planning and implementing a regular outreach meeting — Young Life College club.
  • Serve as a mentor for two to three students yearly.
  • On a regular basis, meet with student leaders to provide guidance and encouragement.
  • On a regular basis, pursue and meet with non-leadership students in their environments for the purpose of relational outreach ministry.
  • Oversee an aspect(s) of the ministry determined by the supervisor and based on:

    – Gifts, talents and passions of the individual.
    – Needs of the campus ministry (e.g., Greek ministry, small group ministry, mission and local outreach).
  • Develop relationships with key adults in the community as assigned by the director.
  • Prepare to lead a Spring Break Young Life College Trip.
  • Serve on summer assignment two of three years per staff assignment policy (Everyone an Assignment Policy).
  • Recruit college students to serve as WyldLife and Young Life leaders and on summer staff.

Ministry Management

  • Coordinate details for assigned areas of responsibility (e.g., weekly Young Life College club, retreats, small groups, mission trips and special events).
  • Plan and prepare to speak/teach at a Young Life College event(s) as determined by the director.
  • Attend committee and adult functions as assigned.
  • Provide administrative support for various elements of the ministry.

Personal Support Team

  • Create a team of people for personal support through prayer and financial contribution.
  • Communicate ongoing ministry progress to personal donor partners.

Specifically:

  • Lead and grow our Young Life College outreach. This includes organizing club and Campaigners for college students at the University of Kentucky.
  • Over time, develop and grow vision to reach more students at the University of Kentucky and vision for surrounding colleges (Transylvania University and/or Bluegrass Community and Technical College).
  • Partner with the area director to supervise, disciple and care for current leaders.
  • Work with our staff team on area-wide outreach and fundraising events.

Principal Characteristics:

  • Christian faith.

    – Has a relationship with Jesus Christ and is actively growing in ways outside of the Young Life ministry.
  • Grasps the idea of “relational ministry” and earning the right to be heard in the community.
  • Spiritually develops volunteer leaders and students in the local ministry.
  • Develops a thought-out vision and plan for spiritual growth.
  • Adheres to Young Life’s policies for staff people.

Qualifications:

  • Young Life volunteer experience (preferred).
  • College degree (preferred).
  • $1,000 +/month of personal fundraising support.
  • Multicultural ministry experience (preferred).
