POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Branch Senior Director, this person is responsible for honest, efficient, timely, and accurate accomplishment of the responsibilities of this position. The Coordinator will understand and communicate the YMCA mission, values, character development emphasis and member service commitment in all aspects of the Youth Development Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Incorporate YMCA philosophy through focus of Spirit, Mind and Body into all job responsibilities and program development efforts.
  • Develop and lead youth development staff and programming which includes, but is not limited to:
    • Ensure a safe, diverse, and engaging environment.
    • Train, and supervise kid zone, and youth programming
    • Oversee direct delivery of safe and high-quality youth and family programming.
    • Create, publish, and oversee staff schedules.
    • Provide assistance and/or back up for staff absences.
    • Organize and assist in leading in-service trainings and staff meetings.
    • Coordinate purchase of program supplies and/or equipment.
  • Support and/or assist in the planning and execution of special events.
  • Serve as a resource to staff to provide accurate information to members and the community regarding the YMCA Playcare programs and services.
  • Ensure Emergency Safety procedures are understood and practiced quarterly.
  • Ensure a professional appearance and environment of program area.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Staff Supervision

  • Responsible for the orientation for all Playcare department staff and volunteers.
  • Provide initial and ongoing training, supervision and support to all Playcare staff and volunteers.
  • Schedule staff, maintain accurate ratios, provide substitutes and assist in staffing for special events.
  • Assist with implementing Membership Appreciation departmental activities with staff.
  • Implement policies and procedures of the department with staff.
  • Establishing staff training opportunities.
  • Assist director in conducting regularly scheduled departmental staff meetings.


Facility and Equipment Management

  • Monitor departmental safety and equipment for members.
  • Ensure program area is clean, orderly and program supplies are appropriately stored.
  • Report maintenance issues to the maintenance staff and monitor progress of repairs. Communicate relevant information to the Program Director.

Association

  • Obtain additional certifications and knowledge through attendance at workshops and trainings.
  • Dress accordingly to YMCA policy.
  • Attend all department and branch staff meetings as scheduled.

QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires enthusiasm, the ability to work well with others, and a desire to motivate and engage youth and families, staff, and volunteers. The position focus is primarily on maintaining safe, quality-driven programs following guidelines set by the YMCA of the USA and the South Sound YMCA Association. Incumbent must be at least 21 years of age with appropriate experience and qualifications to instill quality program goals, objectives and standards to all staff and volunteer instructors. The incumbent must possess the management, technical and organizational skills necessary to assist in supervising a Childcare facility. Supervision, programming, and fiscal management skills are required. The ability to lead a staff team, good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to keep both program and work areas organized are essential.

Must hold the following certifications and qualifications:

  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
  • 3-5 years experience in youth/family programming
  • 1-3 years supervisory experience.

  • South Sound YMCAs - New Employee Orientation must be obtained within 45-days of hire.
