Position Summary
The Louise S. McGehee School is seeking a Varsity Girls Cross Country Coach for the 2023-2024 school year. Ideally, a full-time candidate would have teaching experience in Elementary Education, History, Math, Computer Science, or STEAM. Applicants who are not teachers will be considered as a part-time, contract only employee if they possess a strong background in coaching and training.
Candidates should be an avid runner, with strong values and moral character. They should have the ability to lead and direct a program with individuals who possess different strengths and goals. McGehee's Varsity team has consistently finished in the top-five at State in its Division over the past 15 years. In addition, we have many girls who run Cross Country for the love of the sport and who have a desire to be life-long runners. Making sure that both needs are met are extremely important.
Duties and responsibilities include
Assesses student’s skills and assigns team positions.- Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development
- Works with the athletics director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
- Coaches and instructs students, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Observes students, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
- Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
- Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators
Education and Experience
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree with a background in Education and experience coaching and or competing at a high level.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods of time;- Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop,to reach, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
