When Alfred Fain founded a small Rhode Island tire store in 1924, at the time no one could have predicted how Teknor Apex would become an international custom compounder sought out by companies around the world. After a nearly hundred-year journey that’s carried us through acquisitions and expansion, we now have nine U.S. locations, as well as operations in Belgium, Singapore, Germany, and China.

Throughout this global expansion Teknor has remained a privately held company, and today Fain’s grandson sits at the helm, maintaining the family’s tradition of fostering deep employee and customer relationships. Join our team as a Crew Leader/Lead Operator. In this role, you will be the backup for the Production Supervisor. Duties Include:

• Be a positive influence & Build positive relationships with Team Members on Shift and across Shifts (Lead by Example)
• Learn the manufacturing process, all equipment and production roles to help support the team.
• Be present and active in the end of the shift turnover, ensuring that there is a good turnover of information between team members.
• Be a good example of what it means to be at work and on time, outside of approved vacation times
• Monitoring team members to be present and safely working in their assigned areas.
• Monitor and take immediate action (Inform Shift Supervisor) for suspicion of alcohol, smoking and drug/substance abuse on Teknor Company Property. Ensuring team members are fit for duty.
• Actively model and coach our Core Values, including start of shift exercising and setting high Safety standards (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, no ear buds or phones on production floor, long sleeve shirts).
• Lunch breaks are limited to two 20-minute breaks for each shift unless authorized to be extended for special occasions.
• The Lead operator’s function is to provide support to the team during his or her 8-hour shift, so it is imperative that they are on the floor to help give their support as needed.
• Perform engagement conversations across each shift.
• Computer entry as required for various shift performance reporting
• Troubleshoot and operate equipment as required
• Obtain set-up sheets for products & ensure clean out checklists and other paperwork is completed accurately
• Understand/follow/enforce all company rules and policies at all times
• Work overtime and different shifts if necessary
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Competencies

• Prior leadership experience preferred
• Must be in good standings with Teknor Apex and cannot be under a Final Warning
• High School diploma or GED
• At least 1 year previous experience in production or manufacturing.
• Familiarity with plastic extrusion equipment preferred
• Must be certified in forklift operations
• Good verbal and written communication skills
