What is an Application Systems Analyst?
An Application Systems Analyst is a member of the Operational Technology team which provides technical and application support for industrial control systems and supporting technology used to communicate with and secure these systems. Industrial control systems are used to monitor, control, and optimize the gas and electric transmission and distribution systems. We are seeking candidates with an IT background, with experience using an energy management system (EMS) product suite in a utility environment. The incumbent will act as a liaison between cross functional groups and support control room operators, helping to ensure reliable energy service for our customers. Title/level is commensurate with experience.
What does an Application Systems Analyst do?
Responsibilities include configuration, testing, analysis, and operational support for all facets of the EMS, including but not limited to:
  • Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) system support
  • End-user support, vendor fixes, system upgrades, and security patching
  • Application specific troubleshooting, alarming, and alerting
  • Interfaces including ICCP and internal IT and OT systems
  • Onelines and database point mapping
  • Custom programs and scripting
  • Advanced application support (e.g., state estimation, sequential controls, operator training simulators)
  • Implementation of policies and procedures in asset tracking, information protection, change management, security monitoring, and controls and recovery to support compliance with internal cyber security standards and NERC CIP
  • Acts as a role model for technical competence, helpfulness, facilitation of learning and teamwork
  • Takes responsibility for personal learning, development, and time management, sets achievable and meaningful work jobs, and manages personal targets
  • Demonstrates a commitment to Central Hudson’s organizational values including performing to a high ethical standard while focusing on integrity, collaboration, and teamwork in all efforts
  • Provides support for storm/emergency restoration efforts
What does it take to be an Application Systems Analyst?
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, candidates with an associate’s degree and experience in information technology application support or candidates with a high school diploma or equivalency degree and 3+ years of experience in information technology application support will be considered.
  • Experience supporting large scale software applications and related projects
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels in an interactive team environment
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot problems that may arise in work products and partner with analysts to identify and implement solutions; determine root cause and research potential solutions
  • Ability to multitask, pay close attention to detail, and adapt to a variety of support environments and assignments
  • Ability to understand business functionality and translate it into process flow diagrams, application requirements and system design
  • Must be able to work off-hours and weekends when required and be available for scheduled 24/7 callout support
  • Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or STEM field
  • Technical understanding and/or working knowledge of Windows Server (including Active Directory and SQL Server), Oracle Linux RHEL, and AutoCAD
  • Experience with system integration including the development of strategies and implementation of best practices
  • EMS/SCADA experience in utility field
  • One or more recognized technical certifications (e.g., GIAC or SANS certifications)
  • Understanding of NERC compliance requirements
  • Programming and scripting experience
  • Experience in energy & utilities or services industry
