Under the supervision of the Childcare Director and consistent with the Christian mission and the policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Catawba Valley, the Assistant Childcare Director is responsible for the safety and well being of all children participating in the program and is accountable for the Child Development Center in the absence of the Childcare Director. This includes on and off site programs as well as special events designed for specific target groups. The Assistant Childcare Director will coordinate quality control measures to ensure quality customer services are being delivered. This position must perform within the operational guidelines and budget parameters established by the YMCA. As a member of the professional staff, the Assistant Childcare Director is a constructive member of the YMCA whose major priority is to serve the members of the YMCA with the highest quality of programs and facilities available. Know How:

  • Associates degree in Childcare, Psychology, Sociology, Business Management, or related field or an equivalent of 3-5 years of experience in related field; EDU 119, EDU 261, and EDU 262 preferred.
  • Must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills and supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of fiscal management and budget process.
  • Must have childcare and childcare administration experience.
  • First Aid, CPR, current negative TB test, medical exam, fingerprint check, criminal records check.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be responsive to members and program participants.
  • Must be attentive to details, well organized, able to meet deadlines, take initiative to solve problems, be proactive in decision-making, and work with little supervision.
  • Knowledge of emergency policies and procedures for the facility.
  • Understanding of risk management issues and safety requirements for the facility and program areas.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills with volunteers, members, and parents.

Principle Activities:

The Assistant Childcare Director is responsible for:

  • Assisting in overseeing the daily operation and management of the Child Development Center.
  • Assisting in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating all staff in the Child Development Center.
  • Assisting in the budget development and implementation for the Child Development Center.
  • Assisting in program growth and development for the Child Development Center.
  • Assisting in childcare accounts receivable.
  • Ensuring the safety, health, and welfare of the children who utilize the Childcare programs.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective communication with parents and staff.
  • Understanding and enforcing North Carolina’s Daycare Requirements and Special Requirements.
  • Maintain and represent the YMCA in a professional standard at all times.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Childcare Director or the Executive Director.

The Assistant Childcare Director will be responsible for observing the following rules.

  • No Alcohol or drugs will be used on the job at any time.
  • Report all job accidents the same day the accident happens.
  • Obtain authorization from your supervisor for all non-emergency treatments for accidents.
  • Wear seat belts at all times in company vehicles
  • Keep the area where you work clean and neat at all times.
  • Do not remove or bypass any guards on any machinery at any time.
  • Ask your supervisor when you need additional equipment or instructions to get the job done safely.
  • Lift with your legs, not your back, and get assistance with loads over 50 pounds.
  • Advise your supervisor of any hazardous conditions.
  • Follow all other written and spoken safety rules.

The Assistant Childcare Director represents the YMCA in a professional, courteous, friendly, and helpful manner to members and prospective members. The Assistant Childcare Director will provide a safe, clean, and caring environment in the Childcare Family Services area for the YMCA’s members and prospective members.

Introductory Period:

A 90-day review will be conducted after the employee start date. The purpose of such an initial introductory period is to provide an opportunity for both the YMCA of Catawba Valley and the new employee to assess their respective satisfaction and suitability to the job.
